Women's caesarean section preferences: A multicountry cross-sectional survey in low- and middle-income countries
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that a high proportion of women prefer vaginal birth and highlight that the preference for caesarean section is linked to women's fear of pain and the influence of doctors. These results can inform the development of interventions aimed at supporting women and their preferences, providing them with evidence-based information and changing doctors' behaviour in order to reduce the number of unnecessary caesarean sections.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRY: The QUALI-DEC trial is registered on the Current Controlled Trials website (https://www.isrctn.com/) under the number ISRCTN67214403.PMID:38520954 | ...

Carpogenic germination of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum sclerotia in Brassica oleracea var gemmifera (VN: Brussels sprouts) in North Patagonia, Argentina
Rev Argent Microbiol. 2024 Mar 21:S0325-7541(24)00007-5. doi: 10.1016/j.ram.2023.12.005. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn August 2018, symptoms of apical and basal rot resembling those caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum infection were observed in a commercial Brussels sprouts field in North Patagonia, Argentina. The incidence of apical and basal rot was 23.30% and 2.30%, respectively. Carpogenic germination of sclerotia was detected in shaded, highly humid soil areas. To our knowledge, this is the first report of carpogenic germination of sclerotia from S. sclerotiorum in North Patagonia.PMID:38519396 | DOI:10.1016/j.ram.2...

Datathons: fostering equitability in data reuse in ecology
Trends Microbiol. 2024 Mar 21:S0966-842X(24)00050-7. doi: 10.1016/j.tim.2024.02.010. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTApproaches to rapidly collecting global biodiversity data are increasingly important, but biodiversity blind spots persist. We organized a three-day Datathon event to improve the openness of local biodiversity data and facilitate data reuse by local researchers. The first Datathon, organized among microbial ecologists in Uruguay and Argentina assembled the largest microbiome dataset in the region to date and formed collaborative consortia for microbiome data synthesis.PMID:38519354 | DOI:10.1016/j.tim.2024.02....
