A Review on the use of Synthetic and Recombinant Antigens for the Immunodiagnosis of Tegumentary Leishmaniasis
Curr Med Chem. 2024 Mar 19. doi: 10.2174/0109298673298705240311114203. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTImproving the diagnostic technology used to detect tegumentary leishmaniasis (TL) is essential in view of it being a widespread, often neglected tropical disease with cases reported from the southern United States to northern Argentina. Recombinant proteins, recombinant multiepitope proteins, and synthetic peptides have been extensively researched and used in disease diagnosis. One of the benefits of applying these antigens is a measurable increase in sensitivity and specificity, which improves test accuracy. The present re...

Epidemiology and outcomes of pediatric cardiac arrest in a cardiovascular unit at a public hospital in Argentina
CONCLUSIONS: 4.1% of patients presented CRA, with a rate of 3.4 CRA per 1,000 patient-days. Survival at hospital discharge (n = 50) was 46%. Resuscitation > 6 min and the use of vasoactive drugs were independent predictors of mortality. At six months, 63% had normal neurological development for age.PMID:38507335 | DOI:10.24875/ACM.22000237 (Source: Archivos de Cardiologia de Mexico)

Fundus topographical distribution patterns of ocular toxoplasmosis
Conclusion The 1° lesions were larger than 2° lesions. The 2° lesions were not significantly closer to fovea than 1° lesions. Temporal quadrant and macular region were found to be densely affected underlining the vision threatening nature of the disease. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Scientists in Antarctica track ‘baffling’ virus that could decimate penguins and other polar animals
A 23-meter-long sailboat set off last week from Argentina for Antarctica’s Weddell Sea with eight scientists, lots of cloacal swabs, and a genetic fingerprinting machine aboard. The Australis is headed for the southern continent’s teeming colonies of Adélie penguins, other seabirds, and marine mammals. The goal : to search for signs of a deadly virus that has nearly circled the world over the past 4 years, leaving behind a trail of devastated wildlife. Last month, Spanish researchers confirmed that H5N1, the highly pathogenic form of avian influenza, had finally turned up—as long ...
