External jugular vein aneurysm presenting as submandibular neck mass
J Surg Case Rep. 2022 May 31;2022(5):rjac244. doi: 10.1093/jscr/rjac244. eCollection 2022 May.ABSTRACTExternal jugular vein aneurysms presenting as neck masses is very rare in the literature. This case report presents an 80-year-old female, who was referred to the office due to an incidental finding of a left submandibular neck mass. The patient presented to her primary care physician initially complaining of bilateral intermittent ear pain that was present for several years. After extensive workup, the patient was diagnosed with a left external jugular vein aneurysm. When asymptomatic, this rare condition can be followed ...

< em > Anisi Stellati Fructus < /em > , a Significant Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Herb and Its Bioactivity against Gastric Cancer
Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2022 May 9;2022:4071489. doi: 10.1155/2022/4071489. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTAnisi stellati fructus (ASF) is the fruit of Illicium verum Hook F. (Chinese star anise), which is native to many countries, and is a significant Chinese medicinal herb. Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the major fatal types of cancers with multiple stages and a poor prognosis. The present review aims to discuss the bioactive properties of ASF and its phytocompounds against GC, with a particular insight into the molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways involved in its anti-GC mechanism. Furthermore, it highlight...

Anti-SARS-CoV-2 potential of Cissampelos pareira L. identified by connectivity map-based analysis and in vitro studies
In this study, we dissect the anti-coronavirus infection activity of Cissampelos pareira L (Cipa) extract using an integrative approach.METHODS: We analysed the signature similarities between predicted antiviral agents and Cipa using the connectivity map ( https://clue.io/ ). Next, we tested the anti-SARS-COV-2 activity of Cipa in vitro. Molecular docking analyses of constituents of with key targets of SARS-CoV2 protein viz. spike protein, RNA‑dependent RNA‑polymerase (RdRp) and 3C‑like proteinase. was also performed. A three-way comparative analysis of Cipa transcriptome, COVID-19 BALF transcriptome and CMAP signatu...

Cloning and expression of a novel trans-anethole oxygenase gene from Paraburkholderia sp. MR185
J Gen Appl Microbiol. 2022 Apr 18. doi: 10.2323/jgam.2021.10.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTtrans-Anethole oxygenase (TAO) is the key enzyme responsible for the oxidation of trans-anethole to p-anisaldehyde. A strain, Paraburkholderia sp. MR185, was isolated from soil in Yulin star anise-planting regions using trans-anethole as a sole carbon source and a gene which encodes a protein with high similarities to a hypothetical protein of Paraburkholderia sp. MM5384-R2 which shows 61.27% identies with TAO from Pseudomonas putida JYR-1 was cloned and sequenced. The gene, tao, was expressed in E. coli cells and its protein pr...

Validation of the Revised Illness Perception Questionnaire of Obstructive Sleep Apnea among Elderly  Chinese in the General Population
CONCLUSION: The modified IPQ-R of OSA showed acceptable psychometric properties. It is applicable to assessing illness perceptions of OSA in the Chinese general population aged ≥ 50 years not having received OSA diagnosis. The validated tool would support future studies and health practices related to OSA.PMID:35377089 | DOI:10.1007/s11325-022-02598-y (Source: Sleep and Breathing)

Molecules, Vol. 27, Pages 2227: Essential Oils as In Vitro Ruminal Fermentation Manipulators to Mitigate Methane Emission by Beef Cattle Grazing Tropical Grasses
es C. S. Bueno There is increasing pressure to identify natural feed additives to mitigate methane emissions from livestock systems. Our objective was to investigate the effects of essential oils (EO) extracts star anise (Illicium verum), citronella (Cymbopogon winterianus), clove bud (Eugenia caryophyllus), staigeriana eucalyptus (Eucalyptus staigeriana), globulus eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), ginger (Zingiber officinale), ho wood (Cinnamomum camphora), melaleuca (Melaleuca alternifolia), oregano (Origanum vulgare) and white thyme (Thymus vulgaris) on in vitro methane emissions from four rumen-cannulated Nellore c...

When body positivity falls flat: Divergent effects of body acceptance messages that support vs. undermine basic psychological needs
Body Image. 2022 Mar 16;41:225-238. doi: 10.1016/j.bodyim.2022.02.013. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough women now have access to messaging about body acceptance, the risks and benefits of such messaging are not well-researched. Using a self-determination theory framework, we contrasted need-supportive versus need-undermining messages about body acceptance. One message supported the basic psychological need for autonomy (i.e., personal agency to accept one's body); one targeted the basic need for body acceptance from others; and one used pressure to elicit body positivity - a need-undermining strategy. We contrasted t...

Preparation of Spice Extracts: Evaluation of Their Phytochemical, Antioxidant, Antityrosinase, and Anti- < em > α < /em > -Glucosidase Properties Exploring Their Mechanism of Enzyme Inhibition with Antibrowning and Antidiabetic Studies < em > In Vivo < /em >
Biomed Res Int. 2022 Mar 4;2022:9983124. doi: 10.1155/2022/9983124. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTTyrosinase and α-glucosidase enzymes are known as promising target candidates for inhibitors to control unwanted pigmentation and type II diabetics mellitus. Therefore, twenty extracts as enzyme inhibitors were prepared from edible spices: nutmeg, mace, star anise, fenugreek, and coriander aiming to explore their antioxidant, antibrowning, and antidiabetic potential. Results confirmed that all extracts showed potent antioxidant activity ranging from IC50 = 0.14 ± 0.03 to 3.69 ± 0.37 μg/mL. In addition, all extracts exhibited ex...
