The priority of mesenchymal stem cells treated with melatonin in ameliorating thyroid impairment induced by amiodarone. Thorough look on the apoptotic pathway
Pathol Res Pract. 2024 Feb 17;255:155212. doi: 10.1016/j.prp.2024.155212. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAmiodarone treatment has been associated with thyroid alterations. This work was planned to consider therapeutic outcome of MSCs versus MSCs treated with melatonin in minimizing amiodarone -induced deviations in thyroid. We handed-down 50 male Wistar rats, then distributed them into 5 groups; I, II, III, IV, V; control, sham control, amiodarone treated, amiodarone and MSCs treated, and amiodarone, MSCs and melatonin treated groups respectively. Light microscopic examination; levels of T3, T4 and TSH, Oxidative/antioxidat...

Autopsy of Drug-induced Lung Injury with Atypical Diffuse Alveolar Disorder due to Amiodarone: A Case Report
Intern Med. 2024 Feb 26. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.3141-23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAmiodarone, a prominent antiarrhythmic drug, may cause lung injury. We herein report the case of an 87-year-old man who had been taking amiodarone for 5 years and was subsequently referred due to respiratory failure. Chest computed tomography revealed multiple consolidations with air bronchograms in both lungs. Despite administering steroid pulse therapy, his respiratory failure worsened, and he died 3 days later. Autopsy revealed hyaline membrane formation and organic formation with fibrin deposition. Drug-induced lung injury cau...

Multidisciplinary Management of Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Cardiovascular Disease
Arch Bronconeumol. 2024 Feb 1:S0300-2896(24)00015-2. doi: 10.1016/j.arbres.2024.01.013. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) frequently coexist, increasing the prevalence of both entities and impacting on symptoms and prognosis. CVD should be suspected in patients with COPD who have high/very high risk scores on validated scales, frequent exacerbations, precordial pain, disproportionate dyspnea, or palpitations. They should be referred to cardiology if they have palpitations of unknown cause or angina pain. COPD should be suspected in patients with CVD ...

Use of class IC antiarrhythmic drugs in patients with structural heart disease and implantable cardioverter defibrillator
CONCLUSION: In a multicenter cohort of ICD-carriers with SHD, class-IC-AADs were associated with a low rate of pro-arrhythmic effects or cardiovascular mortality. The majority of patients remained free from sustained VA during a follow-up of > 2 years. Further efforts should be made to evaluate the safety of class-IC-AADs in SHD patients receiving contemporary cardiovascular therapy.PMID:38372753 | DOI:10.1007/s00392-024-02394-6 (Source: Clin Med Res)

Preoperative Amiodarone and Primary Graft Dysfunction in Heart Transplantation
CONCLUSION AND RELEVANCE: A trend toward increased PGD was present in patients receiving preoperative amiodarone. This finding combined with the regression showing significantly increased odds of PGD with increasing 3 and 6 month cumulative amiodarone dose is clinically concerning. Escalation of care with pacemaker implantation was required more frequently in patients on pre-OHT amiodarone.PMID:38361242 | DOI:10.1177/10600280241232032 (Source: The Annals of Pharmacotherapy)
