Synchronized cardioversion resolving refractory supraventricular tachycardia in a neonate: a case report with comprehensive analysis
CONCLUSION: This case report sheds light on the rarity of refractory SVT in neonates, emphasizing the complexities in diagnosis and management. Successful synchronized cardioversion and subsequent oral therapy highlight the need for a multifaceted approach in neonatal SVT cases. The implications for clinical practice underscore the importance of awareness and continued research in neonatal cardiology and emergency medicine.PMID:38463090 | PMC:PMC10923271 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001788 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Use of Amiodarone with Apixaban or Rivaroxaban Increases Risk for Bleeding-related Hospitalizations
This study was observational, and the Medicare data lacked information on several potential confounding factors, thereby limiting the ability to establish a causal relationship. However, hospitalists who are initiating antiarrhythmic drugs for atrial fibrillation should consider the potential increased risk for bleeding-related hospitalization in patients concurrently taking apixaban or rivaroxaban. Bottom line: Amiodarone, when used in conjunction with apixaban or rivaroxaban, increases the risk of bleeding-related hospitalization when compared to the use of flecainide or sotalol. The effects of drug-drug interaction on linezolid pharmacokinetics: A systematic review
ConclusionsThis systematic review found that numerous drugs have an impact on the pharmacokinetics of linezolid, and the purported main mechanism may be that linezolid is the substrate of P-glycoprotein. In clinical practice, it is prudent to pay attention to the changes in linezolid pharmacokinetics caused by interactions. Conducting therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is beneficial to improve efficacy and reduce adverse reactions of linezolid. (Source: European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology)

Amiodarone and Dronedarone Causes Liver Injury with Distinctly Different Clinical Presentations
ConclusionAmiodarone hepatotoxicity resembles that seen in alcohol related liver injury, with fatty infiltration and inflammation. Dronedarone is less predictable, typically without fat and with a shorter latency of use before presentation. These differences may be explained, in part, by the differing pharmacokinetics of the two drugs leading to different mechanisms of hepatotoxicity. (Source: Digestive Diseases and Sciences)

The priority of mesenchymal stem cells treated with melatonin in ameliorating thyroid impairment induced by amiodarone. Thorough look on the apoptotic pathway
Pathol Res Pract. 2024 Feb 17;255:155212. doi: 10.1016/j.prp.2024.155212. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAmiodarone treatment has been associated with thyroid alterations. This work was planned to consider therapeutic outcome of MSCs versus MSCs treated with melatonin in minimizing amiodarone -induced deviations in thyroid. We handed-down 50 male Wistar rats, then distributed them into 5 groups; I, II, III, IV, V; control, sham control, amiodarone treated, amiodarone and MSCs treated, and amiodarone, MSCs and melatonin treated groups respectively. Light microscopic examination; levels of T3, T4 and TSH, Oxidative/antioxidat...
