Urban and agricultural influences on the coastal dissolved organic matter pool in the Algoa Bay estuaries
This study provides new insight into anthropogenic impact on the Algoa Bay system and demonstrates the utility of non-targeted tandem mass spectrometry as a sensitive tool for assessing the health of ecologically important coastal ecosystems and will serve as a valuable foundation for strategizing long-term monitoring efforts.PMID:38548083 | DOI:10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.141782 (Source: Chemosphere)

Indicaxanthin prevents eryptosis induced by cigarette smoke extract by interfering with active Fas ‐mediated signaling
In conclusion, Ind concentrations comparable to nutritionally relevant plasma concentrations, can prevent Fas-mediated RBC death signaling induced by CSE, which suggests that di etary intake of cactus pear fruits may limit the deleterious effects of cigarette smoking. (Source: BioFactors)

Association between Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors and Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk: Another Brick in the Wall
Int J Mol Sci. 2024 Feb 21;25(5):2502. doi: 10.3390/ijms25052502.ABSTRACTIn recent years, immune checkpoint inhibitors have significantly changed the field of oncology, emerging as first-line treatment, either alone or in combination with other regimens, for numerous malignancies, improving overall survival and progression-free survival in these patients. However, immune checkpoint inhibitors might also cause severe or fatal immune-related adverse events, including adverse cardiovascular events. Initially, myocarditis was recognized as the main immune checkpoint inhibitor-related cardiac event, but our knowledge of other p...

Dissolution Profiles of Oral Disintegrating Tablet with Taste Masking Granule Polymer Coating in Biorelevant Bicarbonate Buffer
Chem Pharm Bull (Tokyo). 2024;72(3):298-302. doi: 10.1248/cpb.c23-00783.ABSTRACTThe current study aimed to explore the impact of buffer species on the dissolution behavior of orally disintegrating tablets (ODT) containing a basic polymer and its influence on bioequivalence (BE) prediction. Fexofenadine hydrochloride ODT formulations were used as the model formulations, Allegra® as the reference formulation, and generic formulations A and B as the test formulations. Allegra®, generic A, and generic B are ODT formulations that contain aminoalkyl methacrylate copolymers E (Eudragit® E, EUD-E), a basic polymer commonly used...

Sex Related Differences and Factors Associated With Peri-Procedural and One Year Mortality in Chronic Limb Threatening Ischaemia Patients
Objective: Understanding the pathophysiological differences between the sexes is important to improve the quality of care. Survival of female and male patients who underwent treatment for chronic limb threatening ischaemia (CLTI) have been investigated with discordant results. For instance, some studies from Germany and the USA showed that 30 day mortality was significantly higher in females, while others from Japan and Sweden respectively identified female sex as a significant positive predictor of two year survival, or reported that male sex was significantly associated with an increased risk of death. Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 946: Self-Completion Questionnaire on Sleep Evaluation in Patients Undergoing Oxaliplatin Therapy: An Observational Study
This study aims to understand the effects of sleep complaints on health and quality of life in cancer patients treated with oxaliplatin. A study has been conducted through the creation and distribution of questionnaires to patients to investigate their complaints about sleep quality. We observed significant differences between males and females in evaluating sleep hygiene scores, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and previous difficulty sleeping. Moreover, in females, stress, worries, and anxiety seem to play a negative role in the sleep hygiene score. The obtained results could improve the interest of healthcare personn...

Exploring the Therapeutic Potential of < em > Ganoderma lucidum < /em > in Cancer
J Clin Med. 2024 Feb 18;13(4):1153. doi: 10.3390/jcm13041153.ABSTRACTTriterpenoids, such as ganoderic acid, and polysaccharides, including β-D-glucans, α-D-glucans, and α-D-mannans, are the main secondary metabolites of the medicinal fungus Ganoderma lucidum. There is evidence of the effects of ganoderic acid in hematological malignancies, whose mechanisms involve the stimulation of immune response, the macrophage-like differentiation, the activation of MAP-K pathway, an IL3-dependent cytotoxic action, the induction of cytoprotective autophagy, and the induction of apoptosis. In fact, this compound has been tested in tw...
