Artificial Intelligence vs. Tuberculosis – Part 2

By SAURABH JHA, MD Clever Hans Preetham Srinivas, the head of the chest radiograph project in, summoned Bhargava Reddy, Manoj Tadepalli, and Tarun Raj to the meeting room. “Get ready for an all-nighter, boys,” said Preetham. Qure’s scientists began investigating the algorithm’s mysteriously high performance on chest radiographs from a new hospital. To recap, the algorithm had an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 1 – that’s 100 % on multiple-choice question test. “Someone leaked the paper to AI,” laughed Manoj. “It’s an engineering college joke,” explained Bhargava. “It means that you saw the questions before the exam. It happens sometimes in India when rich people buy the exam papers.” Just because you know the questions doesn’t mean you know the answers. And AI wasn’t rich enough to buy the AUC. The four lads were school friends from Andhra Pradesh. They had all studied computer science at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), a freaky improbability given that only hundred out of a million aspiring youths are selected to this most coveted discipline in India’s most coveted institute. They had revised for exams together, pulling all-nighters – in working together, they worked harder and made work more fun. Preetham ordered Maggi Noodles – the mysteriously delicious Indian instant noodles –...

Authors: Morisaki T, Fukuhara T, Matsuda E, Moritani S, Miyake N, Koyama S, Fujiwara K, Takeuchi H Abstract Lymphadenopathy is frequently observed in immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related disease in some cases, and such cases are known as IgG4-related lymphadenopathy. The ultrasonography findings associated with IgG4-related lymphadenopathy have not been described in previous reports. Herein, we describe ultrasonography findings in two cases of IgG4-related lymphadenopathy in conjunction with histopathological findings. Combined ultrasound scanning with Doppler examination accurately represented the specific histopathol...

Authors: Gavrila IL, Badea RI, Jude C, Socaciu MA, Comsa M, Badea AF Abstract Abdominal ultrasound (US) performed as a "primary imaging procedure" is an important diagnostic tool in gastroenterol-ogy. Expanding the routine investigation to the lower thoracic region might sometimes accelerate the diagnosis in inconclusive manifestations such as pulmonary pathology.US is a valuable tool in evaluating patients with breathing difficulties, chest pain, hypoxia, or chest trauma. This paper presents the particular situation of a patient hospitalized in the gastroenterology depart-ment, where the US identified si...

CONCLUSIONS: In cases of BCCs with thickness of ≤1 mm, there was a high correlation (r=0.870) of the tumor spread depth between micromorphological measurements and the results obtained using a 75 MHz transducer and in cases of BCCs with thickness of>1 mm, a very high correlation (r=0.951) of the tumor spread depth was observed between histomorphometry and30 MHz transducer measurements. CONCLUSIONS: The anatomic stemless press-fit implant seems to be favorable in terms of implant-related stress shielding. Clinical outcome was not affected by radiographic changes, demonstrating an 8-year clinical performance that seems to be comparable to conventional stemmed TSA. Conclusions: One in 14 current EC users in Germany has ever vaporized cannabis for mood-changing reasons, and almost all EC cannabis consumers also smoke tobacco. Highest usage rates can be observed among young adults. Hence, trends of EC drug misuse need to be monitored consequently, particularly in young people.
