Recent Advancements in Refashioning of NSAIDs and their Derivatives as Anticancer Candidates
Curr Pharm Des. 2024 Apr 5. doi: 10.2174/0113816128304230240327044201. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInflammation is critical to the formation and development of tumors and is closely associated with cancer. Therefore, addressing inflammation and the mediators that contribute to the inflammatory process may be a useful strategy for both cancer prevention and treatment. Tumor predisposition can be attributed to inflammation. It has been demonstrated that NSAIDs can modify the tumor microenvironment by enhancing apoptosis and chemosensitivity and reducing cell migration. There has been a recent rise in interest in drug repos...

Renoprotective effect of diacetylrhein on diclofenac-induced acute kidney injury in rats via modulating Nrf2/NF- κB/NLRP3/GSDMD signaling pathways
Food Chem Toxicol. 2024 Apr 4:114637. doi: 10.1016/j.fct.2024.114637. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiclofenac (DF)-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) is characterized by glomerular dysfunction and acute tubular necrosis. Due to limited treatment approaches, effective and safe drug therapy to protect against such AKI is still needed. Diacetylrhein (DAR), an anthraquinone derivative, has different antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, the aim of the current study was to investigate the renoprotective effect of DAR on DF-induced AKI while elucidating the potential underlying mechanism. Our results showed th...

Use of metamizole and other non-opioid analgesics in Switzerland between 2014 and 2019: an observational study using a large health insurance claims database
CONCLUSION: In Switzerland, metamizole was increasingly claimed between 2014 and 2019. Metamizole was most frequently claimed by older adults and patients with comedications suggestive of underlying conditions, which can be worsened or caused by use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The lack of studies regarding the effectiveness and safety of metamizole in this population warrants further investigation.PMID:38579298 | DOI:10.57187/s.3535 (Source: Swiss Medical Weekly)

H* < sub > ads < /sub > dynamics engineering via bimetallic Pd-Cu@MXene catalyst for enhanced electrocatalytic hydrodechlorination
In this study, bimetallic Pd-Cu@MXene catalysts were synthesized to achieve highly efficient removal of HECs. The alloy electrode (Pd-Cu@MX/CC) exhibited better EHDC performance in comparison to Pd@MX/CC electrode, resulting in diclofenac degradation efficiency of 93.3 ± 0.1%. The characterization analysis revealed that the Pd0/PdII ratio decreased by forming bimetallic Pd-Cu alloy. Density functional theory calculations further demonstrated the electronic configuration modulation of the Pd-Cu@MXene catalysts, optimizing binging energies for H* and thereby facilitating H*ads production and tuning the reduction capability ...

Gut-gonad crosstalk in mice exposed to a "chemical cocktail" combining metabolomics and amplicon sequencing
Food Chem Toxicol. 2024 Mar 30:114627. doi: 10.1016/j.fct.2024.114627. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTestes are very prone to be damaged by environmental pollutants, but there is a lack of information about the impact of "chemical cocktails" (CC) on the testicular metabolome and the possible influence in the gut-gonad crosstalk. For this, BALB/c mice were given flumequine and diclofenac orally in food and potentially toxic trace elements (Cd, Hg, As) in drinking water. A mice group was supplemented with selenium, a well-known antagonist against many pollutants. Our results revealed that the steroid 5-alpha-androstan-17-bet...
