External validation of the colorectal cancer risk score LiFeCRC using food frequency questions in the HUNT study
ConclusionReadily available clinical variables and food frequency questions in a modified LiFeCRC score can identify patients at risk of CRC and may improve primary prevention by motivating to lifestyle change or participation in the CRC screening programme. Implementation of Food is Medicine Programs in Healthcare Settings: A Narrative Review
AbstractFood is Medicine (FIM) programs to improve the accessibility of fruits and vegetables (FVs) or other healthy foods among patients with low income and diet-related chronic diseases are promising to improve food and nutrition security in the United States (US). However, FIM programs are relatively new and implementation guidance for healthcare settings using an implementation science lens is lacking. We used a narrative review to describe the evidence base on barriers and facilitators to FIM program integration in US healthcare settings following the Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, and Sustainment (EPIS) Fr...

Genomic characterization and probiotic potential assessment of an exopolysaccharide-producing strain Pediococcus pentosaceus LL-07 isolated from fermented meat
The genomic information available for Pediococcus pentosaceus is primarily derived from fermented fruits and vegetables, with less information available from fermented meat. P. pentosaceus LL-07, a strain isolate... (Source: BMC Microbiology)

Isolation of < em > Schistosoma haematobium < /em > in Bronchoalveolar Lavage in an Immunocompromised Individual: A Case Report
We report a rare case of a 51-year-old People Living with HIV male, managed in a tertiary care hospital in west India in May 2023, vegetable vendor who was admitted with complaints of dysphagia, odynophagia, fever and chest pain for 3 days, cough and breathlessness for 1 month. Chest x-ray and CT scan were suggestive of hypodense fluid collection with rim enhancement along right lateral and posterior aspect of thoracic esophagus. All routine investigations and urine cultures were sent, which turned to be inconclusive. Upper Gastrointestinal scopy was suggestive of pangastritis. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy was done with no stru...

Perceived coaches' health promotion activity, maintenance of participation in sports, and lifestyle habits among emerging adults: a four-year follow-up study
CONCLUSIONS: Perceiving coaches' health promotion activity as frequent was related to maintained participation in organized sports among males. Maintainers were more likely to have more healthy lifestyle habits than nonparticipants and dropouts. There is a need to invest in coaches' health promotion activity when it is infrequent. A more detailed understanding is needed of coaches' health promotion activity that supports both maintained participation in sports, especially among females, and healthy lifestyle habits in emerging adulthood.PMID:38658832 | DOI:10.1080/07853890.2024.2321327 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Vegan grade medium component screening and concentration optimization for the fermentation of the probiotic strain Lactobacillus paracasei IMC 502 ® using Design of Experiments
J Ind Microbiol Biotechnol. 2024 Apr 24:kuae016. doi: 10.1093/jimb/kuae016. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLactobacillus paracasei IMC502® is a commercially successful probiotic strain, however, there are no reports that investigate growth medium composition in relation to improved biomass production for this strain. The major outcome of the present study is the design and optimization of a growth medium based on vegan components to be used in the cultivation of Lactobacillus paracasei IMC502®, by using Design of Experiments (DoE). Besides comparing different carbon sources, the use of plant-based peptones as nitrogen sou...
