Synthesis and characterization of gellan gum-based hydrogels for drug delivery applications
In this study, gellan gum (Gel) derivatives were allowed to interact via aqueous Diels-Alder chemistry without the need for initiators, producing a crosslinked hydrogel network that exhibited good potential as a drug carrier using tramadol as a drug model. Hydrogel conjugation was achieved by the synthesis of a maleimide and furan-functionalized Gel, and the pre- and post-gelation chemical structure of the resulting hydrogel precursors was fully investigated. Potential uses of the developed hydrogel in the pharmaceutical industry were also evaluated by looking at its gelation duration, temperature, morphologies, swelling, ...

Comparative evaluation of the local anesthetic action of Tramadol Hydrochloride (T-HCL) with adrenaline versus Lidocaine Hydrochloride (L-HCL) with adrenaline for maxillary exodontia: A Randomized Control Trial
Tramadol Hydrochloride (T-HCl) has demonstrated to have a local anesthetic (LA) effect similar to lidocaine Hydrochloride (L-HCl) when administered locally for minor oral surgical procedures. (Source: Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

Effects of medication on dopamine transporter imaging using [123I]I-FP-CIT SPECT in routine practice
ConclusionOur study confirms the potential impact of antidepressant (NASSA) and opioid (tramadol) medications on the semi-quantitative analysis of  [123I]I-FP-CIT SPECT scans. However, when performing a visual analysis, only NASSAs significantly impacted the interpretation of  [123I]I-FP-CIT SPECT scans. (Source: European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging)

Barriers and Best Practices on the Management of Opioid Use Disorder
This article provides an overview of the pharmacology of heroin and non-prescription fentanyl (NPF) and its synthetic analogues, and summarizes the literature related to the management of opioid use disorder, overdose, and withdrawal. This is followed by a description of barriers to treatment and best practices for management with a discussion on recent updates and their potential impact on this patient population. Quadratus lumborum and erector spinae plane blocks are effective for analgesia in laparoscopic hysterectomy: a randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: Erector spinae plane block and quadratus lumborum block improved postoperative pain management as part of the multi-modal analgesia protocol; however, erector spinae plane block may be preferable due to its rapid procedure time. The findings suggest that incorporating erector spinae plane block and quadratus lumborum block into multi-modal analgesia protocols for laparoscopic hysterectomy would have important implications for the development and standardization of pain management protocols.PMID:38095381 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202312_34571 (Source: Pharmacological Reviews)
