Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 7819: Enhancing Visible-Light Photocatalysis with Pd(II) Porphyrin-Based TiO2 Hybrid Nanomaterials: Preparation, Characterization, ROS Generation, and Photocatalytic Activity
rowski Novel hybrid TiO2-based materials were obtained by adsorption of two different porphyrins on the surface of nanoparticles—commercially available 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin (TPPS) and properly modified metalloporphyrin—5,10,15,20-tetrakis(2,6-difluoro-3-sulfophenyl)porphyrin palladium(II) (PdF2POH). The immobilization of porphyrins on the surface of TiO2 was possible due to the presence of sulfonyl groups. To further elevate the adsorption of porphyrin, an anchoring linker—4-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHBA)—was used. The synthesis of hybrid ma...

Clinical and Laboratory Factors Related to Seizure and Serotonin Toxicity in Tramadol Intoxication: An Egyptian Study
ConclusionSeizure and serotonin toxicity are severe adverse effects of tramadol overdose that occur in high frequency among young Egyptians. High tramadol concentrations in plasma seem to play a key role in prevalence of seizure and serotonin syndrome in tramadol-intoxicated adult Egyptians. (Source: Clinical Drug Investigation)

A case study on pharmaceutical residues and antimicrobial resistance genes in Costa Rican rivers: A possible route of contamination for feline and other species
Environ Res. 2023 Nov 20:117665. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2023.117665. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this investigation, the presence of antibiotics and pharmaceuticals in Costa Rican surface waters, specifically in regions near feline habitats, was examined. The study revealed that 47% of the water samples contained detectable traces of at least one antibiotic. Ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin were the most frequently detected compounds, each with a detection rate of 27%. Other antibiotics, such as erythromycin, roxithromycin, and trimethoprim, were also found but at lower frequencies, around 14%. Notably, all antibiotic con...

Nitric oxide and potassium channels but not opioid and cannabinoid receptors mediate tramadol-induced peripheral antinociception in rat model of paw pressure withdrawal
This study aimed to explore these mechanisms, specifically the opioid-, cannabinoid-, nitric oxide-, and potassium channel-based mechanisms, which contributes to the peripheral antinociception effect of tramadol, in an experimental rat model. The nociceptive threshold was determined using paw pressure withdrawal. To examine the mechanisms of action, several substances were administered intraplantarly: naloxone, a non-selective opioid antagonist (50 μg/paw); AM251 (80 μg/paw) and AM630 (100 μg/paw) as the selective antagonists for type 1 and type 2 cannabinoid receptors, respectively; nitric oxide synthase inhibitors L-N...

Abuse of tapentadol compared to other atypical opioids among individuals entering treatment for opioid use disorders
CONCLUSIONS: Tapentadol use to get high is less frequent than other atypical opioids. Findings suggest tapentadol is rarely the primary drug abused by an individual.PMID:37968978 | DOI:10.5055/jom.0818 (Source: Journal of Opioid Management)
