Being close or being alone: How Social ostracism affects solitude preference
Br J Soc Psychol. 2024 Apr 30. doi: 10.1111/bjso.12753. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSocial ostracism refers to the phenomenon of being excluded from social interactions and not being accepted by society. While previous research has examined its impact on prosocial and antisocial behaviour, few studies have investigated how individuals respond to ostracism by seeking solitude. Therefore, our study aims to explore the association between social ostracism and solitude seeking as well as the potential psychological mechanisms involved. We conducted three studies involving 488 Chinese students (59% female) and found that (a) ...

Examining processes of change for acceptance and commitment therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy self-help books with depressed college students
Cogn Behav Ther. 2024 Apr 30:1-16. doi: 10.1080/16506073.2024.2346854. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGiven the prevalence of depression, it is worthwhile to consider a variety of treatment approaches to reach as many sufferers as possible, including highly accessible formats such as self-help books. Books based in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) propose to treat depression through distinct processes of change, though the degree to which these treatments are distinguishable in this format is unclear. Furthermore, it is possible that some individuals may respond better to therap...

Development of a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Activity
J Contin Educ Nurs. 2024 May;55(5):220-223. doi: 10.3928/00220124-20240411-04. Epub 2024 May 1.ABSTRACTGlobal mobility has made global health a priority within nursing curricula and health care organizations. A collaborative online learning activity could promote international perspectives of health care delivery. Including a collaborative online international learning activity in continuing education for practicing nurses is a viable strategy that is consistent with the internationalization at home movement. Use of a qualitative descriptive evaluation approach when teaching prelicen-sure nursing students and educating pra...

Impact of Rank, Provider Specialty, and Unit Sustainment Training Frequency on Military Critical Care Air Transport Team Readiness
CONCLUSION: Our main result is that simple readily available metrics available to unit commanders can identify those members at risk for poor performance at CCAT Advanced readiness training; these include RNs with rank Major or above, RTs with rank Senior Airman, and RTs who engage in unit sustainment training less often than monthly. Finally, MD specialties which are nontraditional for CCAT have significantly lower CCAT Advanced passing rates, reserve/guard students did not outperform active duty students, there was no difference in the performance between different RN specialties, and for MD and RN students' previous dep...

Preparing Future Military Medical Officers to Conduct Emergency Fresh Whole Blood Transfusions in Austere Environments: A Novel Training Curriculum
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that the implementation of streamlined EFWBT training into the undergraduate medical education of future military medical officers offers an efficient way to improve their baseline proficiency in EFWBTs. Future research is needed to assess the impact of this training on real-world applications in forward-deployed environments.PMID:38687599 | DOI:10.1093/milmed/usae162 (Source: Military Medicine)

Underweight in young Japanese women over time: a longitudinal retrospective study of the change in body mass index from ages 6 to 20 years
CONCLUSION: Young Japanese women with underweight have at least two characteristics of BMI SDS trajectory: being constitutionally underweight and shifting their weight status from baseline towards underweight in their late teens.PMID:38685666 | DOI:10.1080/03014460.2024.2345393 (Source: Annals of Human Biology)

EIF3B stabilizes PCNA by counteracting SYVN1-mediated ubiquitination to serve as a promotor in cholangiocarcinoma
Aging (Albany NY). 2024 Apr 29;16. doi: 10.18632/aging.205759. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCholangiocarcinoma, a prevalent hepatic malignancy, exhibits a progressively rising incidence. While Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 subunit B (EIF3B) has been implicated in the occurrence and development of various cancers, its specific roles in cholangiocarcinoma remain unexplored. Immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis was employed to detect EIF3B/PCNA expression in cholangiocarcinoma. Cells were manipulated using short hairpin RNA (shRNA)-mediated lentiviruses or overexpression plasmids. Statistical significance was asse...

The moderating role of conscientiousness in the temporal association of stress on sleep
This study examined whether daytime stress predicts sleep the following night, and the moderating role of neuroticism and conscientiousness in this relationship. To introduce stress variability in natural daily stressors, we measured college students (N = 92) during exams (e.g. high academic stress) and at the start of new course period (e.g. low academic stress). Both objective (actigraphy) and subjective sleep, and daily self-reported stress, were measured for 14 days and personality traits once. Reported daily stress was significantly higher in the exam period compared with baseline, suggesting that our natural manipula...

Exploring clinical facilitation and student learning on undergraduate nursing placements through a community of practice lens: A qualitative study
Conclusions: The clinical facilitator role has an important function in preparing student nurses for practice and needs further recognition and continued professional development. Education providers and healthcare organisations need to examine strategies to provide inclusive and supportive work environments, building communities of practice for clinical facilitators and stakeholders to share their experiences and knowledge, promoting individual and group learning, thus improving the student placement experience and fostering the professional identity of clinical facilitators.PMID:38687302 | DOI:10.1080/10376178.2024.23478...
