Recombinant Soybean Lipoxygenase 2 (GmLOX2) Acts Primarily as a ω6( < em > S < /em > )-Lipoxygenase
Curr Issues Mol Biol. 2023 Jul 28;45(8):6283-6295. doi: 10.3390/cimb45080396.ABSTRACTThe lipoxygenase (LOX) cascade is a source of bioactive oxylipins that play a regulatory role in plants, animals, and fungi. Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) LOXs are the classical models for LOX research. Progress in genomics has uncovered a large diversity of GmLOX isoenzymes. Most of them await biochemical investigations. The catalytic properties of recombinant soybean LOX2 (GmLOX2) are described in the present work. The GmLOX2 gene has been cloned before, but only for nucleotide sequencing, while the recombinant protein was not prepare...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 6222: Effect of Fermented Matrix on the Color and Stability of Strawberry and Blueberry Anthocyanins during the Storage of Fruit Yogurts and Soy-Based and Bean-Based Fruit Yogurt Alternatives
no The effect of the fermented matrix on the color and the stability of anthocyanins contained in strawberry (Fragaria ananassa D.) and highbush blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) preparations for fruit yogurts, as well as soy-based (Glycine max L. Merr.) and bean-based (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) yogurt alternatives, stored for 8 weeks, was evaluated. To produce the fermented bean matrix, germinated seeds of white and black beans were used. The obtained fermented matrices had similar pH levels, while the soy-based and black bean-based yogurt alternatives were characterized by their high content of isoflavone aglycones an...

Nanoscale sulfur alleviates silver nanoparticle toxicity and improves seed and oil yield in Soybean (Glycine max)
This study evaluated the potential protective role of nanosulfur (NS) and bulk sulfur (BS) at 200 and 400 mg/kg soil application in alleviating silver nanoparticle (AgNPs; 32 and 64 mg/kg) phytotoxicity to soybean [Glycine max (L) Merr.]. The treatments were added in the soil before soybean transplantation; growth, yield, nutrient, and silver accumulation were measured in the shoot, root, and seeds. Exposure to AgNPs significantly affected plant growth and yield, reducing nodule weight by 40%, fresh shoot weight by 66%, and seed yield by 68% when compared to controls. However, nanosulfur application in soil alleviated AgNP...

Isolation of Meiocytes and Cytological Analyses of Male Meiotic Chromosomes in Soybean, Lettuce, and Maize
Methods Mol Biol. 2023;2686:219-239. doi: 10.1007/978-1-0716-3299-4_9.ABSTRACTMeiosis is a specialized cell division that halves the number of chromosomes following a single round of DNA replication, thus leading to the generation of haploid gametes. It is essential for sexual reproduction in eukaryotes. Over the past several decades, with the well-developed molecular and cytogenetic methods, there have been great advances in understanding meiosis in plants such as Arabidopsis thaliana and maize, providing excellent references to study meiosis in other plants. A chapter in the previous edition described molecular cytologic...

Graphitic carbon nitride alleviates cadmium toxicity to microbial communities in soybean rhizosphere
In this study, graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4), a two-dimensional polymeric nanomaterial, was applied for ameliorating Cd phytotoxicity to soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.). Its impacts on rhizosphere variables, microorganisms, and metabolism were examined. It was found that g-C3N4 increased carbon/nitrogen/phosphorus (C/N/P) content, especially when N contents were averagely 4.2 times higher in the g-C3N4-treated groups. g-C3N4 significantly induced alterations in microbial community structures (P < 0.05). The abundance of the probiotics class Nitrososphaeria was enriched (on average 70% higher in the g-C3N4-treated g...

Genes, Vol. 14, Pages 1509: Evidence for Two Soybean Looper Strains in the United States with Limited Capacity for Cross-Hybridization
Henry Teran The noctuid moth soybean looper (SBL), Chrysodeixis includens (Walker) is an economically important pest of soybeans (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) in the southeastern United States. It has characteristics that are of particular concern for pest mitigation that include a broad host range, the capacity for annual long-distance flight, and resistance in some populations to important pesticides such as pyrethroids and chitin synthesis inhibitor. The biology of SBL in the United States resembles that of the fellow noctuid fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith), a major pest of corn and several othe...

Mechanochemical synthesis of cysteine-gum acacia intermolecular complex for multiple metal(loid) sequestration from herbal extracts
Chemosphere. 2023 Jul 21:139612. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139612. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe ubiquitous heavy metal(loid)s (HMs) contamination has triggered great concern about food safety, while sequestration and separation of trace HMs from herbal extracts still calls for appropriate sorbent materials. In this work, gum acacia was modified by cysteine to form a cysteine-acacia intermolecular complex (Cys-GA complex) via facile mechanochemical synthesis, aiming at capturing multiple HMs simultaneously. Preliminary screening confirms the superiority of Cys-CA complex for both cationic and anionic HMs, and det...
