Influence of Different Mouthwashes on the Efficacy of Fluoridated Dentifrices in Prevention of Enamel Erosion: An < em > In Vitro < /em > Study
CONCLUSION: The present study concluded that the fluoride dentifrices' preventive effects against tooth surface loss were unaffected by a different mouthwashes with varying compositions and major constituents. In terms of erosion, fluoridated toothpaste containing stannous fluoride was found to provide better surface loss protection than sodium fluoride.CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Primary prevention and the eradication of contributing causes are the greatest strategies for preventing erosion. Simultaneously, antibacterial agent in the mouthwashes may help in enhancing the effect of fluoride in the enamel, owing to their high af...

Longitudinal imaging of murine atherosclerosis with 2-deoxy-2-[ < sup > 18 < /sup > F]fluoro-D-glucose and [ < sup > 18 < /sup > F]-sodium fluoride in genetically modified Apolipoprotein E knock-out and wild type mice
Sci Rep. 2023 Dec 27;13(1):22983. doi: 10.1038/s41598-023-49585-1.ABSTRACTIn a longitudinal design, four arterial segments in mice were followed by positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging. We aimed to determine how the tracers reflected the development of atherosclerosis via the uptake of 2-deoxy-2-[18F]fluoro-D-glucose ([18F]FDG) for imaging inflammation and [18F]-sodium fluoride (Na[18F]F) for imaging active microcalcification in a murine model of atherosclerosis. Apolipoprotein E knock-out (ApoE) mice and C57 BL/6NtaC (B6) mice were divided into four groups. They received either normal chow (N ...

Nigella sativa oil restores hormonal levels, and endocrine signals among thyroid, ovarian, and uterine tissues of female Wistar rats following sodium fluoride toxicity
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Dec 25;170:116080. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.116080. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe current study aimed to explore the possible prophylactic and therapeutic effect of Nigella sativa L. oil (NSO) against disruption of endocrine signals and injuries in the thyroid gland, ovary, and uterine tissues induced by sodium fluoride (NaF). Twenty-eight mature female Wistar rats were randomly allocated into four experimental groups (n = 7/group) as follows: control group; NaF group, orally received NaF (20 mg/kg b.wt.) daily; NSO/NaF, orally received NSO (300 mg/kg b.wt.) two weeks before being given NaF ...

Blood alcohol concentration in the clinical laboratory: a narrative review of the preanalytical phase in diagnostic and forensic testing
Biochem Med (Zagreb). 2024 Feb 15;34(1):010501. doi: 10.11613/BM.2024.010501. Epub 2023 Dec 15.ABSTRACTThe analysis of blood alcohol concentration (BAC), a pivotal toxicological test, concerns acute alcohol intoxication (AAI) and driving under the influence (DUI). As such, BAC presents an organizational challenge for clinical laboratories, with unique complexities due to the need for forensic defensibility as part of the diagnostic process. Unfortunately, a significant number of scientific investigations dealing with the subject present discrepancies that make it difficult to identify optimal practices in sample collection...

Influence of surface pre-reacted glass-ionomer (S-PRG) filler eluate on collagen morphology, remineralization, and ultimate tensile strength of demineralized dentin
CONCLUSIONS: Ion released from S-PRG filler positively influenced collagen morphology, remineralization, and ultimate tensile strength of demineralized dentin.CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: S-PRG filler enhances remineralization and improve the biomechanics of demineralized dentin.PMID:38096611 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmbbm.2023.106295 (Source: Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials)

Smart Hesperidin/Chitosan Nanogel Mitigates Apoptosis and Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress in Fluoride and Aluminum-Induced Testicular Injury
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2023 Dec 13. doi: 10.1007/s12011-023-03991-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFluoride and aluminum are ubiquitous toxic metals with adverse reproductive effects. The citrus flavonoid hesperidin has protective activities but poor solubility and bioavailability. Nanoparticulate delivery systems can improve flavonoid effectiveness. We conducted this study to prepare a pH-responsive chitosan-based nanogel for hesperidin delivery and evaluate its effectiveness against sodium fluoride (NaF) and aluminum chloride (AlCl3) induced testicular toxicity in mice. The nanogel was synthesized using 2 kGy gamma irradia...

Caries prevention and treatment in early childhood: comparing strategies. A systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Every method considered has been proven to be successful in halting the progression of ECC and is well-liked by patients, even those who are unwilling to cooperate, as well as by parents. The most common unfavorable effect of SDF is irreversible black discoloration in treated tooth surfaces, but this is typically not a problem. They are all low-cost, minimally invasive techniques that might also be widely used in large communities and low socioeconomic settings.PMID:38039039 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202311_34477 (Source: Pharmacological Reviews)
