Proof-of-principle study using < em > Saccharomyces cerevisiae < /em > for universal screening test for cancer through ultrasound-based size distinction of circulating tumor cell clusters
J Biosci. 2024;49:14.ABSTRACTScreening strategies for cancer, the second largest cause of deaths, exist, but are invasive, cumbersome, and expensive. Many cancers lack viable screening modalities all together. Circulating tumor cell clusters (CTCCs) are seen during early stages of cancer and are larger than normal blood cells. Discrimination of such differential sizes by real-time ultrasound scanning of a blood vessel offers an attractive universal screening tool for cancer. Yeast colonies were grown to different sizes mimicking CTCCs and normal blood cells, using sugar and starch to incubate and sodium fluoride to arrest ...

Clinical Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography
Although positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) underwent rapid growth during the last quarter-century, becoming a new standard-of-care for imaging most cancer types, CT and bone scan remained the gold standard for patients with prostate cancer. This occurred as 2-fluorine-18-fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose was perceived to have a limited role owing to low sensitivity in many patients. A resurgence of interest occurred with the use of fluorine-18-sodium-fluoride PET/CT as a replacement for bone scintigraphy, and then choline, fluciclovine, and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) PET/CT as prostate “specific” radiotra...

Influence of Different Mouthwashes on the Efficacy of Fluoridated Dentifrices in Prevention of Enamel Erosion: An < em > In Vitro < /em > Study
CONCLUSION: The present study concluded that the fluoride dentifrices' preventive effects against tooth surface loss were unaffected by a different mouthwashes with varying compositions and major constituents. In terms of erosion, fluoridated toothpaste containing stannous fluoride was found to provide better surface loss protection than sodium fluoride.CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Primary prevention and the eradication of contributing causes are the greatest strategies for preventing erosion. Simultaneously, antibacterial agent in the mouthwashes may help in enhancing the effect of fluoride in the enamel, owing to their high af...
