The Effects of an Eight-Week Swimming Program on Body Composition and Assessment of Dietary Intake in Post-COVID-19 Patients
J Nutr Metab. 2024 Mar 27;2024:3037784. doi: 10.1155/2024/3037784. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTCOVID-19 infection and its consequences (long-term COVID-19 syndrome) have implications for weight loss, body composition, and diet quality. In the context of the "PostCovSwim" project, which is part of a broader international study, the impact of an eight-week swimming program on post-COVID-19 patients' nutritional status (i.e., body composition and dietary intake) was evaluated. Body composition and dietary intake were assessed by medically approved and calibrated bioelectrical impedance (Tanita 780 S MA) and food frequency questi...

Selenium and Bacillus proteolyticus SES increased Cu-Cd-Cr uptake by ryegrass: highlighting the significance of key taxa and soil enzyme activity
In this study, a pot experiment was carried out to investigate whether Se and Bacillus proteolyticus SES promote Cu-Cd-Cr uptake by ryegrass. To explore the effect mechanism of Se and Bacillus proteolyticus SES, rhizosphere soil physiochemical properties and rhizosphere soil bacterial properties were determined further. The findings showed that Se and Bacillus proteolyticus SES reduced 23.04% Cu, 36.85% Cd, and 9.85% Cr from the rhizosphere soil of ryegrass. Further analysis revealed that soil pH, organic matter, soil enzyme activities, and soil microbial properties were changed with Se and Bacillus proteolyticus SES appli...

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1583: Microelectrode Voltammetric Analysis of Low Concentrations of Se(IV) Ions in Environmental Waters
lek The current research is an attempt to analyze on-site selenium(IV) ions in environmental water samples using an eco-friendly miniaturized sensor developed by deposition of a very thin amount of metallic bismuth in a solid Bi electrode tightly closed in miniaturized housing. Numerous experimental variables are optimized, including the composition of the supporting electrolyte and its pH, as well as activation and accumulation conditions. Under optimized measurement conditions, the method shows high sensitivity, permitting a very low limit of detection equal to 7 × 10−10 mol L&minu...

Dietary patterns; serum concentrations of selenium, copper, and zinc; copper/zinc ratio; and total antioxidant status in patients with glaucoma
This study aimed to identify the biochemical parameters that determine the occurrence of glaucoma and assess the correlation between oxidative stress and clinical data in patients with glaucoma and healthy controls. We enrolled 169 participants; the glaucoma group comprised 104 patients with prima ry open-angle, pseudoexfoliation, or angle-closure glaucoma, and the control group comprised 65 healthy individuals. Serum concentrations of selenium (Se), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn); Cu/Zn ratio; and total antioxidant status were measured in both groups. Significantly lower Se and Zn serum levels w ere observed in men (67.7 ± 1...
