Cardiovascular events in cancer patients with bone metastases —A Danish population‐based cohort study of 23,113 patients
ConclusionCancer patients with bone metastases had a substantial risk of developing cardiovascular events, and these events were associated with a subsequent increased mortality. Our findings underscore the importance of continuous optimized prevention of and care for cardiovascular disease among cancer patients with bone metastases.

Cancers, Vol. 13, Pages 2420: STA-MCA Bypass in Carotid Stenosis after Radiosurgery for Cavernous Sinus Meningioma
Conclusion: SRS and SRT carry fewer complications than open surgery, with similar rates of tumor control. Our case shows the importance of a follow-up of irradiated CSMs not only by a radio-oncologist, but also by a neurosurgeon, illustrating the importance of multidisciplinary management of CSMs.

Cancers, Vol. 13, Pages 2193: Prognosis of Acute Ischaemic Stroke Patients with Cancer: A National Inpatient Sample Study
K Myint Whilst cancer is a risk factor for acute ischaemic stroke (AIS), its impact on AIS prognosis between metastatic and non-metastatic (MC and NMC) disease is poorly understood. Furthermore, the receipt of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and endovascular thrombectomy (ET) and their outcomes is poorly researched. AIS admissions from the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) were included (October 2015–December 2017). Multivariable logistic regressions adjusting for a wide range of confounders analysed the relationship between NMC and MC and AIS in-hospital outcomes (mortality, prolonged hospitalisation >4 days...

Clinical significance of hypertension in patients with different types of cancer treated with antiangiogenic drugs
Oncol Lett. 2021 Apr;21(4):315. doi: 10.3892/ol.2021.12576. Epub 2021 Feb 23.ABSTRACTHypertension is a common comorbidity in patients receiving antiangiogenic therapy. Prior studies have reported worsening or new-onset hypertension as an adverse event of antiangiogenetic therapy, which can be managed by dose reduction or discontinuation of the culprit medication. By contrast, other studies have found that the occurrence of hypertension is a potential biomarker associated with greater efficacy of antiangiogenic therapy and predicts improved survival. At present, there is no consensus on the effects of hypertension in patien...

Incidence and Risk of Various Types of Arterial Thromboembolism in Patients With Cancer
CONCLUSION: In this observational study of an aggregated US patient population, those with newly diagnosed cancer had increased risk of ATE events. This risk was most elevated in a 330-day window around cancer diagnosis and was consistent across different types of ATE and cancer.PMID:33673912 | DOI:10.1016/j.mayocp.2020.05.045

Chemoradiotherapy for Inoperable Carotid Body Leiomyosarcoma: A Case Report and Review of Literature
Vascular leiomyosarcoma is an extremely rare tumor and is associated with poor prognosis among leiomyosarcoma. Surgical resection remains the main treatment option. But outcome of definitive treatment with chemoradiotherapy in inoperable patients is not clear. Here, we report treatment and outcome of definitive chemoradiotherapy in a case of vascular leiomyosarcoma. A 64-year-old man with the initial presentation of pulsatile right neck mass was diagnosed with right carotid body leiomyosarcoma. He refused surgical intervention due to risk of carotid body injury and ischemic stroke. Successful tumor control was achieved wit...

Potentially fatal complications of systemic air embolism after computed tomography ‐guided transthoracic needle biopsy in lung cancer harboring epithelial growth factor receptor mutation: A case report
Systemic air embolism developed after CT ‐guided TTNB, leading to ST‐elevation, myocardial infarction and acute ischemic stroke. The patient recovered completely without sequelae and was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma harboring activatingEGFR mutation. Treatment with gefitinib showed a response. Air embolism is a rare, fatal complication of computed tomography (CT) ‐guided transthoracic needle biopsy (TTNB) of the lung. Here, we report a patient who developed an air embolism after CT‐guided TTNB, which led to ST‐elevation myocardial infarction and acute cerebral ischemia. The patient recovered completely without c...
