Social Determinants of Health and Racial Disparities in Cardiac Events in Breast Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Neighborhood and built environment variables are the most important SDOH predictors for 2-year MACE, and NHB patients were more likely to have unfavorable SDOH conditions. This finding reinforces that race is a social construct.PMID:37433439 | DOI:10.6004/jnccn.2023.7023

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 3503: The Risk of Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Stroke in Head and Neck Cancer: A Longitudinal Cohort Study
u Kim Several studies have shown that head and neck cancer is associated with an increased risk of stroke incidence. However, investigations of the association between the two diseases based on a matching cohort dataset are still limited. Therefore, we identified the incidence and risk of stroke in patients with head and neck cancer using a nationwide population-based cohort dataset. A total of 5248 individuals without cancer and 1312 with cancer were enrolled from the dataset after a 4:1 propensity score matching. We found that the incidence of overall stroke (per 1000 person years) was 19.29 for those with head and n...

Duration-dependent impact of cardiometabolic diseases and multimorbidity on all-cause and cause-specific mortality: a prospective cohort study of 0.5  million participants
CONCLUSION: Among Chinese adults, mortality risk increased with the number of the CMDs and changed with prolonged disease duration, the patterns of which varied among the three CMDs.PMID:37308998 | DOI:10.1186/s12933-023-01858-9

Alcohol consumption and risks of more than 200 diseases in Chinese men
Nat Med. 2023 Jun 8. doi: 10.1038/s41591-023-02383-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlcohol consumption accounts for ~3 million annual deaths worldwide, but uncertainty persists about its relationships with many diseases. We investigated the associations of alcohol consumption with 207 diseases in the 12-year China Kadoorie Biobank of >512,000 adults (41% men), including 168,050 genotyped for ALDH2- rs671 and ADH1B- rs1229984 , with >1.1 million ICD-10 coded hospitalized events. At baseline, 33% of men drank alcohol regularly. Among men, alcohol intake was positively associated with 61 diseases, including 33 not defi...

Assessment of thrombectomy procedure difficulty by neurointerventionalists based on vessel geometry parameters from carotid artery 3D reconstructions
CONCLUSIONS: Examining the vessel metrics and providing detailed vascular data tailored to patient characteristics may result in better procedure preparation, facilitate faster vessel access time, and improve thrombectomy outcomes. Additionally, documenting these correlations can enhance device design to ensure they suitably function under various vessel conditions.PMID:37262981 | DOI:10.1016/j.jocn.2023.05.014
