Admission Rates, Time Trends, Risk Factors, and Outcomes of Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Stroke From German Nationwide Data
DISCUSSION: Despite recent advances in acute stroke care over the last decade, the percentage of stroke hospitalizations resulting in death remained unchanged. Further research is needed to determine how best to optimize stroke care pathways for multimorbid patients.PMID:36332988 | DOI:10.1212/WNL.0000000000201259

Ischemic stroke in a patient with EGFR ‐mutated non–small‐cell lung cancer after treatment with ramucirumab
This article presents the case of a non–small-cell lun g cancer patient who experienced a new ischemic stroke after treatment with ramucirumab. The findings suggest that further studies may be necessary to investigate the relationship between ramucirumab and the risk of ischemic stroke.

Neurovascular Manifestations of Iron-Deficient Anemia: Narrative Review and Practical Reflections through a Teaching Case
Conclusions: IDA is a common but treatable condition that, independently or synergically, may increase the risk of thrombotic events. The diagnostic and therapeutic approach has not yet been defined, and each case should be individually addressed in a pragmatic clinical road map.PMID:36294407 | DOI:10.3390/jcm11206088

Therapeutic efficacy of matrix metalloproteinase-12 suppression on neurological recovery after ischemic stroke: Optimal treatment timing and duration
The objectives of this study were to (1) determine the effect of MMP-12 suppression by shRNA-mediated gene silencing on neurological/functional recovery, (2) establish the optimal timing of MMP-12shRNA treatment that provides maximum therapeutic benefit, (3) compare the effectiveness of acute versus chronic MMP-12 suppression, and (4) evaluate potential sex-related differences in treatment outcomes. Young male and female Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to transient middle cerebral artery occlusion and reperfusion. Cohorts of rats were administered either MMP-12shRNA or scrambled shRNA sequence (control) expressing plasm...

Incident Cardiovascular Diseases Among Survivors of High-Risk Stage II-III Colorectal Cancer: A Cluster-Wide Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Exposure to adjuvant fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy was associated with an increased risk of CVD among survivors of high-risk stage II-III CRC. Cardiovascular risk monitoring of this group throughout cancer survivorship is advisable.PMID:36240841 | DOI:10.6004/jnccn.2022.7042

Sex- and age-specific all-cause mortality in insomnia with hypnotics: Findings from Japan multi-institutional Collaborative Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Our study revealed sex-age specific associations between hypnotic use and all-cause mortality.PMID:36240602 | DOI:10.1016/j.sleep.2022.09.020

Influenza Vaccination and Risk of Ischemic Stroke: A Population-Based Case-Control Study
DISCUSSION: Results are compatible with a moderate protective effect of influenza vaccine on IS appearing early after vaccination. The finding that a reduced risk was also observed in pre-epidemic periods suggests that either the "protection" is not totally linked to prevention of influenza infection, or it may be partly explained by unmeasured confounding factors.PMID:36240087 | DOI:10.1212/WNL.0000000000201123

Related factors based on non-targeted metabolomics methods in minor ischaemic stroke
CONCLUSION: Increased levels of lactic acid, pyruvate, and TMAO may be related to the pathophysiological changes in the minor ischaemic stroke population. High blood pressure, a lack of physical activity, smoking, and increased TMAO level were the influencing factors for the occurrence of minor ischaemic stroke. The serum metabolite TMAO may be associated with MS occurrence.PMID:36237188 | PMC:PMC9552842 | DOI:10.3389/fendo.2022.952918
