Iron promotes neurological function recovery in mice with ischemic stroke through endogenous repair mechanisms
In this study, we first observed that changes in iron metabolism occured during neurological function recovery in the mice with distal middle cerebral artery occlusion (dMCAO). Our data showed that plasticity changes due to endogenous repair mechanisms resulted in improvements in cerebral cortex function. Clinical Significance of PAC-1, CD62P, and Platelet-Leukocyte Aggregates in Acute Ischemic Stroke
We studied diagnostic and treatment values of the blood levels of platelet activation markers PNA, PMA, PLyA, PAC-1, and CD62P in 30 patients with acute ischemic stroke (median NIHSS score 4 (2; 6)) before and after treatment as well as in comparison with the control group. The levels of these markers were measured by flow cytometry. Therapeutic treatment with ascorbate rescues mice from heat stroke-induced death by attenuating systemic inflammatory response and hypothalamic neuronal damage.
This study was performed by using the characteristic high lethality rate and sepsis-mimic systemic inflammatory response of a murine model of heat stroke to test our hypothesis that supra-physiological doses of ascorbate may have therapeutic use in critical care. Combined NADPH and the NOX inhibitor apocynin provides greater anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects in a mouse model of stroke.
This study was designed to elucidate the effects of co-treatment with NADPH and NOX inhibitor apocynin on ischemia/reperfusion-induced brain inflammation and neuronal injury. Offsetting the impact of smoking and e-cigarette vaping on the cerebrovascular system and stroke injury: Is Metformin a viable countermeasure?
In this study we provide additional in vivo evidence showing that MF can effectively reduce the oxidative and inflammatory risk for stroke and attenuate post-ischemic brain injury promoted by TS and e-Cig vaping. Our data also suggest that MF administration could be extended as prophylactic care during the time window required for the renormalization of the risk levels of stroke following smoking cessation thus further studies in that direction are warrated.
