Diffusional Characteristics of Brain Matter after Stroke
We analyzed characteristics of diffusion and its kurtosis obtained using diffusion-kurtosis MRI in the hemisphere contralateral to the one affected by acute cerebrovascular accident. Diffusion characteristics in the white and gray matter were compared using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) in healthy subjects and stroke patients with consideration for the age and sex factors. Significant differences between the groups were revealed for apparent diffusion coefficient and mean kurtosis in the white matter. A Canine Surgical Model of Stroke by Minimally Invasive Occlusion of the Proximal Middle Cerebral Artery
In this study, a model of ischemic stroke by surgical proximal middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion was developed on 10 beagle dogs. The advantages of this model are the transtemporal approach and a minimally invasive surgical procedure. Dogs were randomly assigned to two groups: sham-operated (proximal MCA exposure without occlusion) and experimental (permanent proximal MCA occlusion) groups. Effect of Sodium Nitrite and L-NNA on the Outcome of Experimental Ischemic Stroke
We studied the effect of sodium nitrite in doses of 5 and 50 mg/kg and NO synthase inhibitor L-NNA in a dose of 20 mg/kg on the course of experimental ischemic stroke caused by occlusion of both carotid arteries. Sodium nitrite and NO synthase inhibitor were administered 1 h prior to occlusion of еру carotid arteries and 5 sec after brain ischemia. Sodium nitrite in a dose of 5 mg/kg had a protective effect on the time course of neurological disorders and reduced animal mortality. NO synthase inhibitor L-NNA aggravated the neurological symptoms.
