Cerebellar Fastigial Nucleus Stimulation in a Chronic Unpredictable Mild Stress Rat Model Reduces Post-Stroke Depression by Suppressing Brain Inflammation via the microRNA-29c/TNFRSF1A Signaling Pathway.
CONCLUSIONS In a rat model, cerebellar fastigial nucleus stimulation reduced the expression of TNFRSF1A by upregulating miR-29c expression, which suppressed the expression of inflammatory cytokines, resulting in reduced severity of post-stroke depression. PMID: 31352465 [PubMed - in process]

Association Between Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C) Level and Unfavorable Outcomes in Participants of Ischemic Stroke without Diabetes: A Multi-Center Retrospective Study.
CONCLUSIONS Compared to lower LDL-C levels, non-diabetic patients with LDL-C levels in Q3 (2.95-3.54 mmol/L), were less likely to have unfavorable functional outcomes at 6 months after acute ischemic stroke. Managing HDL-C is one of the most important steps for the recovery of acute ischemic stroke. PMID: 31397429 [PubMed - in process]

Iron Pathophysiology in Stroke.
Authors: Almutairi MMA, Xu G, Shi H Abstract Ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke are the common types of stroke that lead to brain injury neurological deficits and mortality. All forms of stroke remain a serious health issue, and there is little successful development of drugs for treating stroke. Incomplete understanding of stroke pathophysiology is considered the main barrier that limits this research progress. Besides mitochondria and free radical-producing enzymes, labile iron is an important contributor to oxidative stress. Although iron regulation and metabolism in cerebral stroke are not fully understood, much p...

Visit-to-visit Systolic Blood Pressure Variability and Stroke Risk: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
SummaryVisit-to-visit variability in systolic blood pressure (SBP) may have an important additional role in increasing the risk of vascular complications, including stroke. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the relationship between visit-to-visit SBP variability (SBPV) and stroke risk. PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane library databases were searched for cohort studies with data on visit-to-visit SBPV and stroke risk. Studies that reported adjusted relative risks (RRs) with 95% CIs of stroke associated with SBPV were included. Fourteen cohort studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in our meta-analysis. Af...

miR-22 and cerebral microbleeds in brainstem and deep area are associated with depression one month after ischemic stroke.
In this study, we aimed to explore the relationship among miR-22, deep cerebral microbleeds (CMBs), and post-stroke depression (PSD) 1 month after ischemic stroke. We consecutively recruited 257 patients with first-ever and recurrent acute cerebral infarction and performed PSD diagnosis in accordance with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IV criteria for depression. Clinical information, assessments of stroke severity, and imaging data were recorded on admission. We further detected plasma miR-22 using quantitative PCR and analyzed the relationship among miR-22, clinical data, and PSD using SPSS 23.0 software. Logistic...

Shorter Interval between Onset and Admission to Convalescent Rehabilitation Wards Is Associated with Improved Outcomes in Ischemic Stroke Patients.
In conclusion, a shorter interval between stroke onset and admission to convalescent rehabilitation wards contributes to improved outcomes, including ADLs, dysphagia, and a discharge rate to home, in ischemic stroke patients, regardless of stroke severity. PMID: 32848123 [PubMed - in process]

A Novel Multiple-Cue Observational Clinical Scale for Functional Evaluation of Gait After Stroke - The Stroke Mobility Score (SMS).
CONCLUSIONS The SMS proves to be an easy-to-use, tele-applicable, robust, consistent, reliable, and nuanced functional scale of gait impairments after stroke. Due to its sensitivity to whole-body motion criteria, it is ideally suited for machine learning algorithms and for development of new therapy strategies based on instrumented gait analysis. The prevalence of sight impairment registration post-stroke
Strabismus. 2021 Apr 22:1-4. doi: 10.1080/09273972.2021.1914678. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMany stroke survivors are eligible for sight impairment (SI) registration from a chronic visual impairment (VI). The literature and clinical experience show that some individuals who meet the criteria for registration either decline or are not offered registration. The aim of this Orthoptic stroke service review is to determine the reason for declining and whether the individuals feel supported without registration and to recommend service changes to improve the certification process. A service evaluation of stroke survivors who ...

Score for Predicting Active Cancer in Patients with Ischemic Stroke: A Retrospective Study
CONCLUSIONS: We devised a clinical score to predict active cancer in patients with ischemic stroke based on the absence of a history of hyperlipidemia and elevated serum D-dimer and fibrinogen levels. The use of this score may allow for early intervention. Further research is needed to confirm the implementation of this score in clinical settings.PMID:34124248 | PMC:PMC8169246 | DOI:10.1155/2021/5585206

Disorder Genes Regulate the Progression of Ischemic Stroke through the NF- < em > κ < /em > B Signaling Pathway
Biomed Res Int. 2021 Oct 27;2021:2464269. doi: 10.1155/2021/2464269. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTStroke is an acute cerebrovascular disease, including ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. Stroke is the second leading cause of death after ischemic heart disease, which accounts for 9% of the global death toll. To explore the molecular mechanisms of the effects of the dysregulated factors, in the GEO database, we obtained transcriptome data from 24 h/72 h of mice with ischemic stroke and 24 h/72 h of normal mice. We then performed differential gene analysis, coexpression analysis, enrichment analysis, and regulator prediction bioinf...
