Complexity analysis of beat‐to‐beat skin‐surface laser‐Doppler flowmetry signals in stroke patients
ConclusionLarger SampEn values of FRT can be partly attributed to the local regulatory activities that are present in the stroke subjects when facing the induced abnormal vascular conditions and blood flow perfusion resistance. The present findings could aid the development of a noninvasive monitoring technique that will enable discrimination of the different microcirculatory responses in stroke patients. This article is protected by copyright. Role of high sensitivity C-reactive protein and other risk factors in intracranial and extracranial artery occlusion in patients with ischaemic stroke
Conclusions Coronary heart disease and a history of stroke are risk factors for ischaemic stroke with IEAO. Hs-CRP may be used as a marker for IEAO.

Inter-rater reliability of a national acute stroke register
Conclusion: A majority of the variables in The Norwegian Stroke Register have substantial to excellent reliability. The problem areas seem to be the lack of completeness in the time variable indicating stroke onset and poor reliability in some variables concerning examinations and treatment received in hospital.

Knowledge of stroke a study from a sex perspective
Conclusions: Stroke knowledge is suboptimal in both men and women. We detected better knowledge of stroke risk factors in women, as well as differences in the type of risk factors listed by men and women. There were significant sex differences regarding response to stroke or to its warning signs.

CTA Characteristics of the Circle of Willis and Intracranial Aneurysm in a Chinese Crowd with Family History of Stroke.
Conclusions. The certain variations of CoW showed significant relation to gender, but not to age in people with family history of stroke. The incomplete circle may be a dangerous factor that is independent of common risk factors for stroke and tend to lead to cerebral ischemia in the crowd with family history of stroke. The prevalence of intracranial aneurysm is comparatively high in the present subjects compared to other people. PMID: 26881211 [PubMed - in process]

Increased Expression of mir-34a-5p and Clinical Association in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients and in a Rat Model.
CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest there is a potential regulatory role of miRNA-34a-5p in acute ischemic stroke, which could serve as a therapeutic target or biomarker in stroke prognosis. PMID: 27545688 [PubMed - in process]

Real-World Evidence of Stroke Prevention in Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation in the United States: the REVISIT-US Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Rivaroxaban and apixaban were associated with less ICH than warfarin and both are likely associated with reductions in the combined endpoint. Further investigation to validate the numerically higher rate of ischemic stroke with apixaban versus warfarin is required. PMID: 27633045 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Objective Ventricle Segmentation in Brain CT with Ischemic Stroke Based on Anatomical Knowledge.
Abstract Ventricle segmentation is a challenging technique for the development of detection system of ischemic stroke in computed tomography (CT), as ischemic stroke regions are adjacent to the brain ventricle with similar intensity. To address this problem, we developed an objective segmentation system of brain ventricle in CT. The intensity distribution of the ventricle was estimated based on clustering technique, connectivity, and domain knowledge, and the initial ventricle segmentation results were then obtained. To exclude the stroke regions from initial segmentation, a combined segmentation strategy was prop...

Potential Pathogenesis and Biomarkers of Kidney Cancer-Related Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS Elevated plasma D-dimer, CA125 and CEA levels, and increased urine protein levels might lead to hypercoagulability and then KCS; however, they may also be biomarkers of KCS. PMID: 28505148 [PubMed - in process]

Impact of renal function on ischemic stroke and major bleeding rates in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation patients treated with warfarin or rivaroxaban: a retrospective cohort study using real-world evidence.
CONCLUSIONS: Ischemic stroke rates were significantly lower in the overall NVAF population for rivaroxaban vs warfarin users, including patients with eCrCl below 50 mL/min. For all renal function groups, major bleeding risks were not statistically different between treatment groups. PMID: 28590785 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Intravenous Thrombolysis in Acute Ischemic Stroke with Active Cancer.
In conclusion, ischemic stroke patients with active cancer, especially those with a cryptogenic mechanism, showed poor clinical outcomes after use of IV t-PA. PMID: 28660209 [PubMed - in process]

External Validation of Pooled Cohort Risk Equations to Predict 1-Year Clinical Outcome in Ischemic Stroke Patients.
CONCLUSIONS Pooled cohort risk equations may serve as potential tools to predict and stratify the 1-year risk of recurrent stroke and combined vascular events in AIS/TIA patients in China. PMID: 28902807 [PubMed - in process]

Differential Expression Pattern of Exosome Long Non-Coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and MicroRNAs (miRNAs) in Vascular Endothelial Cells Under Heat Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS These results indicate that the identified lncRNAs and miRNAs in endothelial cell exosomes might serve as non-invasive biomarkers for heat stroke. PMID: 30399613 [PubMed - in process]

Translation and Cross-Cultural Adaptation of SATIS-Stroke for Use in Brazil: A Satisfaction Measure of Activities and Participation in Stroke Survivors.
Conclusion: The final version of the SATIS-Stroke scale in Brazilian Portuguese proved to be adequate and reliable for use on the Brazilian population. Further studies are underway to give continuity to the validation process and analyze the others measurement properties of the scale in the Brazilian population. PMID: 30906780 [PubMed - in process]

Prognostic Factors of Functional Outcome Assessed by Using the Modified Rankin Scale in Subacute Ischemic Stroke.
Conclusions: Achieving functional recovery during 6 months post stroke was related to age and motor improvement. With limited resources, continuity of rehabilitation training in the community system or allocation of caregiver training should be a part of discharge planning to promote recovery.
