Stroke patients ’ support: evaluation of knowledge, practices and training needs of French community pharmacists
Conclusion Based on this small study, the fragmented knowledge and varied practices promote the need for further training for pharmacists to optimize support of stroke patients. This study promotes the elaboration of training systems adapted to pharmacists ’ needs. This will help support the development of a targeted pharmaceutical care approach for stroke patients.

COVID-19 Impact on Stroke Admissions during France ’s First Epidemic Peak: An Exhaustive, Nationwide, Observational Study
Conclusion: Stroke hospitalizations in France experienced a decline during the first lockdown period, which cannot be explained by a sudden change in stroke incidence. This decline is therefore likely to be a direct, or indirect, result of the COVID-19 pandemic.Cerebrovasc Dis

Discrepancy between guidelines for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation and practice patterns in primary care. The nationwide French AFIGP survey.
CONCLUSIONS: In this large French study, approximately 45% of thromboembolic high-risk patients were either not treated or inadequately treated. Better compliance with evidence-based guidelines is needed to reduce the burden of stroke in the AF population. PMID: 26113478 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Thymosin β4 for the treatment of acute stroke in aged rats
Publication date: 17 October 2017 Source:Neuroscience Letters, Volume 659 Author(s): Daniel C. Morris, Wing Lee Cheung, Richard Loi, Talan Zhang, Mei Lu, Zheng G. Zhang, Michael Chopp Thymosin β4 (Tβ4) is a 5K peptide which influences cellular migration by inhibiting organization of the actin-cytoskeleton. Tβ4 has neurorestorative properties and is a potential candidate for the treatment of sub-acute stroke. Previous research demonstrated that Tβ4 improved neurological outcome in a young (3 months) rat model of embolic stroke. We hypothesized that Tβ4 would improve neurological outcome in an aged rat model of embolic...

Mobile applications related to stroke: a systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: Evidences with low methodological quality were identified in relation to different areas of care of the patient with stroke, as well as a wide range of applications in the different application markets, which advocated the creation of mechanisms of regulation regarding the validity of content. Risk models to predict late-onset seizures after stroke: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: The SeLECT model was the only model developed in line with proposed guidelines for appropriate model development. The model, which was externally validated in a very similar and homogeneous population, may need to be tested in a more racially/ethnic diverse and younger population; testing the SeLECT model, accounting for overall brain health is likely to improve the identification of high-risk patients for late post stroke seizures.PMID:34029995 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2021.108003

Access to stroke care in Europe: results of a vignette approach
ConclusionsWhile stroke related services are formally covered in almost all countries, considerable access problems exist in several countries. Future cross-country surveys of access to stroke care should collect quantitative data related to proportions of patients receiving particular services as well as qualitative data on access barriers.

Stroke and death-findings from a 25-year follow-up of a cohort of employed Swedish middle-aged men of the Coeur study
ConclusionFew of the traditional risk factors were significantly associated with stroke possibly explained by low power and/or different pathogenetic mechanism than for myocardial infarction.Partly because death occurred more often, we did find a number of potential risk factors to be significantly associated with this outcome.

Effects of prismatic adaptation on balance and postural disorders in patients with chronic right stroke: protocol for a multicentre double-blind randomised sham-controlled trial
The objective is to investigate the effects of this intervention on balance but also on postural disorders, subjective straight-ahead, longitudinal body axis and autonomy in patients with chronic right stroke lesion. Methods and analysis In this multicentre randomised double-blind sham-controlled trial, we will include 28 patients aged from 18 to 80 years, with a first right supratentorial stroke lesion at chronic stage (≥12 months) and having a bearing ≥60% of body weight on the right lower limb. Participants will be randomly assigned to the experimental group (performing pointing tasks while wearing glasses shifti...

Risk of ischemic stroke in patients with COVID-19 infection: A systematic review and meta-analysis
This study systematically reviewed published studies and conducted meta-analysis to evaluate the association between the risk of ischemic stroke and COVID-19. This study was conducted according to guidelines from the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. The protocol used in this study had been registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews. EMBASE, PubMed, Cochrane Library and Web of Science were searched from 1st December 2019-19th February 2021. This systematic review and meta-analysis analysed the combined effect estimations based on odds ratios (OR) with the ra...

Association between reported work in cold environments and stroke occurrence in the CONSTANCES cohort: a prospective study
Conclusions This study did not reveal a significant excess risk of stroke for occupational exposures to low temperatures. Further studies are needed to better assess the effect of preventive measures and very low temperature on occurrence of cardiovascular diseases.
