Intravenous thrombolysis and thrombectomy decisions in acute ischemic stroke: An interrater and intrarater agreement study.
CONCLUSION: Disagreements regarding the use of IVtPA or MT in the management of AIS patients remain frequent. Further trials are needed to resolve the numerous areas of uncertainty. PMID: 31047687 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Sex-Related Differences in Management and Outcome of Acute Ischemic Stroke in Eligible Patients to Thrombolysis
Conclusions: We provided an exhaustive overview and real-life professional practices conditions in thrombolyzed AIS. Despite a later prehospital management in neurovascular units and more severe strokes at admission, women and men had both similar outcomes at hospital discharge and in 3-month survival, but women were associated to worst functional outcome at 3 months.Cerebrovasc Dis

Mechanical thrombectomy for ischaemic stroke in the anterior circulation: off-hours effect
ConclusionOur study did not show worse outcomes in patients treated at off-hours. This result suggests that the off-hours effect reported in other studies can be minimized by a coordinated organisation of stroke care providing similar levels of care at off-hours.

Acute Cerebral Stroke with Multiple Infarctions and COVID-19, France, 2020.
We describe 2 cases in coronavirus disease patients in France involving presumed thrombotic stroke that occurred during ongoing anticoagulation treatment for atrial fibrillation stroke prophylaxis; 1 patient had positive antiphospholipid antibodies. These cases highlight the severe and unique consequences of coronavirus disease-associated stroke. PMID: 32453685 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Effectiveness of walking training on balance, motor functions, activity, participation and quality of life in people with chronic stroke: a systematic review with meta-analysis and meta-regression of recent randomized controlled trials
CONCLUSION: Treadmill and overground walking protocols consisting of ≥30 min sessions conducted at least 3 days per week for about 8 weeks are beneficial for improving motor impairments, activity limitations, participation, and quality of life in people with chronic stroke.Implications for rehabilitationTreadmill walking training is effective for improving balance and motor functions.Overground walking training improved significantly walking endurance, walking speed, participation and quality of life.Treadmill and overground walking protocols consisting of ≥30 min sessions conducted at least 3 days per week for about 8...

Abstract No. 550 The impact of stay-at-home orders on code stroke activations and mechanical thrombectomy
Stay-at-home orders and additional fears of the COVID-19 pandemic led to a decrease in the presentation of patients with stroke symptoms in emergency departments across some regions in the U.S. but without a similar decline in mechanical thrombectomy (MT) (1). However, a significant decrease of MT cases was observed in other countries such as France (2). It is unknown if the same phenomenon was observed across the entire U.S. The purpose of this study was to review the volumes of code stroke activation, emergent large vessel occlusion (ELVO) activation, and MT cases in a Stroke Belt region during statewide stay-at-home mea...

Large artery intracranial stenosis in young adults with ischaemic stroke
Rev Neurol (Paris). 2021 Dec 14:S0035-3787(21)00776-1. doi: 10.1016/j.neurol.2021.10.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLarge artery intracranial stenosis (ICS) is a common finding in stroke patients, but is much less prevalent in Western countries than in Asia and in young adults than in the elderly. We investigated the prevalence and causes of ICS among French young adults with ischaemic stroke. Clinical and radiological data of patients aged 18-54 years treated consecutively for acute ischaemic stroke in the anterior circulation at a tertiary stroke centre were analysed retrospectively. Patients with>50% ICS were ide...
