Psychiatric sequelae of stroke affecting the non-dominant cerebral hemisphere
There are a plethora of cognitive sequelae in addition to neglect and extinction that arise with unilateral right hemispheric stroke (RHS). Cognitive deficits following non-dominant (right) hemisphere stroke are common with unilateral neglect and extinction being the most recognized examples. The severity of RHS is usually underestimated by the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), which in terms of lateralized right hemisphere cognitive deficits, tests only for visual inattention/extinction.

Lessons learned in stroke care during COVID-19 pandemic and preparing for future pandemics in the MENA+ region: A consensus statement from the MENA+-SINO
COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted stroke care services at multiple levels. There was a decline in acute stroke admissions. Fewer interventions have been performed. Increased “door-to-needle times and “door-to-groin puncture” during this pandemic. These factors combined have led to declining in the favoured outcomes of stroke patients' globally. Yet this pandemic permits an opportunity for higher preparedness for future pandemics.

Cerebral edema in acute stroke: Effect of thrombolytic treatment
Cerebral edema (CED) is a common complication of ischemic stroke in Intensive Care Unit. Although frequently observed in patients undergoing intravenous thrombolytic (IVT) treatment, the pathogenic role of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA) in CED induction has not yet been definitively clarified. The aim of our study is to verify the relationship between CED and rtPA in patients affected by acute ischemic stroke, without reperfusion signs, evaluating the CED growth rate in the first week after stroke onset.

Timing stroke: A review on stroke pathophysiology and its influence over time on diffusion measures
Diffusion imaging (DWI) is considered an optimal technique to detect hyperacute cerebral ischemia and has thus enriched the clinical management of patients with suspected stroke. Researchers have taken this technique beyond with Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI)-extracted measures, which have been proposed as biomarkers of stroke progression. A large body of literature report on the correlates between pathophysiological events, such as cytotoxic and vasogenic edema, and diffusion changes in the brain.

Association of hyperglycemia and computed tomographic perfusion deficits in patients who underwent endovascular treatment for acute ischemic stroke caused by a proximal intracranial occlusion: A subgroup analysis of a randomized phase 3 trial (MR CLEAN)
Hyperglycemia is highly prevalent in patients with acute ischemic stroke and is associated with increased risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage, larger infarct size and unfavorable outcome. Furthermore, glucose may modify the effect of endovascular treatment (EVT) in patients with ischemic stroke. Hyperglycemia might lead to accelerated conversion of penumbra into infarct core. However, it remains uncertain whether hyperglycemia on admission is associated with the size of penumbra or infarct core in acute ischemic stroke.

Stroke in sickle cell disease and the promise of recent disease modifying agents
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited hemoglobinopathy affecting approximately 100,000 individuals in the United States. Cerebrovascular disease is among the most common and debilitating complications of SCA, with 53% experiencing silent cerebral infarct by age 30 and 3.8% experiencing overt stroke by age 40  years. This review highlights the burden of cerebrovascular disease in SCD, including both stroke and silent cerebral infarct (SCI). We then discuss the pathophysiology of stroke and cerebral fat embolism in the absence of a patent foramen ovale.

Combination of heart rate variability and ABCD2 score portends adverse outcomes after minor stroke or transient ischemic attack
The residual recurrent risk of stroke, which cannot be entirely explained by the traditional ABCD2 score, still existed. Heart rate variability (HRV), a method for reflecting the function of automatic nervous system (ANS), was a novel predictor of secondary stroke events. We aimed to investigate relationships of combined heart rate variability (HRV) and ABCD2 score with adverse outcomes after acute minor stroke (MS) or transient ischemic attack (TIA), and further investigate the independent associations between HRV and adverse outcomes after MS/TIA stratified by ABCD2 score.

We read the article “Is improved access to magnetic resonance imaging imperative for optimal ischemic stroke care?” [1] with great interest. The authors have presented a concise and informative summary of the use of MRI in ischemic stroke care, emphasizing its significance in diagnosis, management, and secondary pr evention. We appreciate the authors for presenting a comprehensive summary of the use of MRI in ischemic stroke care. However, we have certain points to make about the comparison of the MR scanners provided in this article.
