Feasibility study of a targeted self-management intervention for reducing stroke risk factors in a high-risk population in Uganda
Stroke remains a global concern due to increasing lifespan, patterns of industrialization, adoption of harmful western diets, and an increasing prevalence of risk factors such as hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. We investigated an adopted novel self-management intervention, TargetEd mAnageMent Intervention (TEAM) to reduce modifiable stroke risk factors in Uganda.

Adjuvant intra-arterial rt-PA injection at the initially deployed solitaire stent enhances the efficacy of mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke
Both intra-arterial recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) and stent retrieval are effective for treating acute ischemic stroke. The goal of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of stent retrieval combined with intra-arterial rt-PA administration via micro-catheter (called the complex technique) in acute ischemic stroke.

Post-stroke depression: Risk assessment
Sarfo et al. conducted a cross-sectional study to investigate factors for post-stroke depression (PSD) in 200 patients with stroke [1]. The authors used multivariate logistic regression analyses, and the number of patients with depression was 73. Adjusted odds ratios (ORs) (95% confidence intervals (CIs)) of the Modified Rankin scale and being divorced for PSD were 1.85 (1.28 –2.69) and 2.82 (1.18–6.71), respectively. I have some concerns about their study.

In a stroke cohort with incident hypertension; are more women than men likely to be excluded from recombinant tissue-type Plasminogen Activator (rtPA)?
The treatment outcomes in the use of rt-PA have been reported. Some studies reported worse outcome in women than men, while others presented opposing data. Using data from a hospital-based stroke registry, we investigated evidence of gender difference and determined exclusion criteria in a stroke population with incidence of hypertension.

Hyperglycemia predicts unfavorable outcomes in acute ischemic stroke patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis among a Chinese population: A prospective cohort study
In this study, we investigated whether an elevated admission serum glucose level in the 3-h time window of intravenous thrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke determined poor functional outcomes among Chinese population.

Pilot trial of a tele-rehab intervention to improve outcomes after stroke in Ghana: A feasibility and user satisfaction study
Tele-rehabilitation after stroke holds promise for under-resourced settings, especially sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), with its immense stroke burden and severely limited physical therapy services.

Patent foramen ovale closure versus medical therapy for cryptogenic stroke: An updated meta-analysis
The efficacy of patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure for secondary stroke prevention in cryptogenic stroke (CS) patients with PFO is uncertain. This meta-analysis aims to assess whether PFO closure is superior to medical therapy.

Ticagrelor for stroke prevention in patients with vascular risk factors: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Even though ticagrelor was beneficial in prior cardiovascular trials, its efficacy in stroke prevention was inconclusive in recent randomized-controlled clinical trials (RCTs). We sought to consolidate the evidence for efficacy and safety of ticagrelor for stroke prevention.

Intravenous thrombolysis in stroke patients taking novel oral anticoagulants: experience with the low-dose 0.6  mg/kg of recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator. Case reports
In the last decade, the novel oral anticoagulant (NOAC) dabigatran (a direct thrombin inhibitor), rivaroxaban, apixaban and edoxaban (direct factor Xa inhibitors) have been approved for primary and secondary prevention of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) [1]. Compared with vitamin k antagonists such as warfarin, the NOACs offer benefits in terms of efficacy, safety and convenience [2]. The only currently approved treatment for acute stroke with a class I recommendation and level A evidence is intravenous recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator alteplase (IV rt-PA) [4].

Incident stroke among Ghanaians with hypertension and diabetes: A multicenter, prospective cohort study
The burden of stroke among hypertensive and diabetic population in sub-Saharan Africa remains high. We sought to identify the risk factors associated with stroke occurrence in these high-risk population groups.

Idarucizumab-facilitated intravenous thrombolysis in acute ischemic stroke: A therapeutic strategy requiring further investigation
Although dabigatran does a better job reducing the risk of cardioembolic stroke than warfarin in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation, 0.92 –1.34% of dabigatran users still develop isch emic stroke [1]. The usage of warfarin (even at a suboptimal therapeutic level) increases the risk of hemorrhagic transformation (HT) after intravenous thrombolysis (IT) [2]; therefore, current guidelines advise against performing IT in patients receiv ing any direct oral anti-coagulant (DOAC), including dabigatran [3].

Risk factors for stroke occurrence in a low HIV endemic West African country: A case-control study
HIV infection is an emerging vascular risk factor associated with stroke occurrence. The weight of evidence from sub-Saharan Africa in support of this has accrued from countries with high HIV prevalence. Our objective was to assess the contribution of HIV sero-positivity to the occurrence and outcomes of stroke in a West African country with low HIV prevalence.

Effects of mechanical thrombectomy for acute stroke patients with etiology of large artery atherosclerosis
Atherosclerosis is more prevalent in Asian population. This distinct etiology of stroke might disadvantage Asian patients when applying.mechanical thrombectomy (MT). The purpose of this research was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of MT in a cohort of Chinese patients with acute ischemic stroke.due to large artery atherosclerosis (LAA).
