Anxiety After Stroke Clinical Sciences
Background and Purpose—Anxiety after stroke is common and disabling. Stroke trialists have treated anxiety as a homogenous condition, and intervention studies have followed suit, neglecting the different treatment approaches for phobic and generalized anxiety. Using diagnostic psychiatric interviews, we aimed to report the frequency of phobic and generalized anxiety, phobic avoidance, predictors of anxiety, and patient outcomes at 3 months poststroke/transient ischemic attack. Methods—We followed prospectively a cohort of new diagnosis of stroke/transient ischemic attack at 3 months with a telephone semistructured psych...

Anxiety in Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke: Risk Factors and Effects on Functional Status
Conclusion: Depressive symptoms are the major correlates of PSA while more severe PSA is associated with poorer ADL and health-related QOL. Acute lesions involving CHWM may correlate with PSA in ischemic stroke patients with mild-to-moderate neurologic deficits, supporting a lesion-location hypothesis in PSA.IntroductionAnxiety is prevalent after stroke and occurs in about one-quarter of stroke survivors (1, 2). Poststroke anxiety (PSA) may have a negative impact on quality of life (QOL) of stroke survivors, affecting their rehabilitation (3). Furthermore, one prospective study found that severe anxiety symptoms were assoc...

Red blood cell indices in relation to post-stroke psychiatric disorders: a longitudinal study in a follow-up stroke clinic.
CONCLUSION: The risks of PSD and PSA increased substantially 3 months beyond stroke onset. Of the RBC indices, higher MCV showed an independent positive association with PSD. PMID: 32324513 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The High Prevalence of Anxiety Disorders After Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Point prevalence of anxiety disorders is markedly higher after stroke than in the general population, and this cannot be attributed to higher rates of comorbid depression. PMID: 26601725 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Post stroke intervention trial in fatigue (POSITIF): Randomised multicentre feasibility trial
CONCLUSION: Patients can be recruited to a trial of this design. These data will inform the design of further trials in post-stroke fatigue.PMID:35866206 | DOI:10.1177/02692155221113908

Erectile dysfunction and associated risk factors in male patients with ischemic stroke: A cross-sectional study
This study aimed to investigate the incidence of ED, sexual quality of life, and mental state of patients after stroke, as well as analyze the relevant risk factors affecting their psychological status. A total of 361 IS patients were enrolled. The international erectile function index-5 scale was used to diagnose ED. Accordingly, the patients were divided into ED group and non-ED group. Magnetic resonance imaging was used to evaluate the brain lesions of patients. We assessed neurological deficits by the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score and patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and general anxiety disord...

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing for post-stroke post-traumatic stress disorder: Case report using the three-phase approach
Brain Inj. 2022 Nov 13:1-10. doi: 10.1080/02699052.2022.2140833. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMedically-induced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is substantially more prevalent than PTSD in the general population. In people with stroke, it can impact as many as 23% of patients, with negative effects on mental health as well as stroke-related disability. Medically-induced PTSD may have unique features compared to other forms of PTSD, and therefore there is a pressing need to evaluate existing treatments for PTSD in this context. The current study reports on the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of Eye Movement Desensi...

HDAC3-Regulated PGE2 Production by Microglia Induces Phobic Anxiety Susceptibility After Stroke and Pointedly Exploiting a Signal-Targeted Gamma Visual Stimulation New Therapy
ConclusionsHDAC3-regulated PGE2 production by microglia constitutes phobic anxiety susceptibility after stroke and a protective approach of gamma visual stimulation can be a candidate new therapy.

Self-reported efficacy in patient-physician interaction in relation to anxiety, patient activation, and health-related quality of life among stroke survivors
CONCLUSIONS: Higher self-efficacy in patient-physician interaction was associated with higher patient activation and mental health status among stroke survivors using smartwatches. Furthermore, we found no association between anxiety and smartwatch prescription for AF in participants with high self-efficacy in patient-physician interaction. Efforts to improve self-efficacy in patient-physician interaction may improve patient activation and self-rated health and subsequently may lead to better clinical outcomes.KEY MESSAGESHigher self-efficacy in patient-physician interaction was associated with higher patient activation an...
