Effects of lncRNA MALAT1-mediated β-catenin signaling pathway on myocardial cell apoptosis in rats with myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury.
CONCLUSIONS: MALAT1 knockdown can significantly ameliorate the I/R-induced myocardial injury and improve the cardiac function of the rats, whose mechanism is probably correlated with the inhibition of MALAT1 siRNA on β-catenin. Therefore, MALAT1 siRNA is expected to become a new target for the treatment of myocardial infarction. PMID: 31773707 [PubMed - in process]

Cancers, Vol. 11, Pages 1848: The Potential Impact of Connexin 43 Expression on Bcl-2 Protein Level and Taxane Sensitivity in Head and Neck Cancers –In Vitro Studies
This study aimed to test the role of Cx43 protein on Bcl-2 expression, tumor progression and response to taxane-based treatment in HNSCC. Human papillomavirus (HPV) negative HNSCC cell lines were tested for paclitaxel sensitivity through measuring apoptosis induction, cell viability and changes in Cx43 and Bcl-2 levels using flow cytometry, cell viability assay, immunocytochemistry and western blot. Inhibition of Cx43 expression using siRNA increased Bcl-2 protein levels in SCC25 (tongue squamous cell carcinoma) cells, while forced Cx43 expression reduced Bcl-2 levels and supported paclitaxel cytotoxicity in FaDu (hypophar...

MALAT1 inhibits the Wnt/ β-catenin signaling pathway in colon cancer cells and affects cell proliferation and apoptosis.
MALAT1 inhibits the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in colon cancer cells and affects cell proliferation and apoptosis. Bosn J Basic Med Sci. 2019 Nov 15;: Authors: Zhang J, Li Q, Xue B, He R Abstract Metastasis associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) is a highly conserved long noncoding RNA, which has been related to various pathological processes, including cancer. The role and mechanism of MALAT1 in colon cancer are not clear. We investigated MALAT1 expression in colon cancer tissues, the effect of MALAT1 on proliferation and apoptosis of SW480 cells, and the signaling pathway involved...

miR-210-3p regulates the proliferation and apoptosis of non-small cell lung cancer cells by targeting SIN3A.
Authors: Ren J, Li X, Dong H, Suo L, Zhang J, Zhang L, Zhang J Abstract Previous studies have indicated that microRNA (miR)-210-3p is upregulated in NSCLC, however, the specific mechanism underlying the role of miR-210-3p in NSCLC pathogenesis requires further investigation. The aim of the present study was to explore the roles of miR-210-3p in NSCLC and the associated mechanisms. A total of 30 NSCLC tissues and paired adjacent normal tissues were collected for study. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction was performed to compare the expression of miR-210-3p in the 30 paired cancerous and adj...

Dysfunction of B-cell lymphoma 2/adenovirus E1B 19KD interacting protein 3 in decidua is involved in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia
Conclusion: This study indicates that BNIP3 is particularly important for decidualization and may contribute to both the occurrence and development of preeclampsia via mTOR/p70s6k/BCL-2 signaling pathways.

Downregulation of miR-3934-5p enhances A549 cell sensitivity to cisplatin by targeting TP53INP1.
Authors: Ren A, Wen Z, Zheng L Abstract Tumor protein p53-inducible nuclear protein 1 (TP53INP1) is a tumor suppressor associated with malignant tumor metastasis. In addition, it has been reported that hsa-microRNA (miR)-3934 serves key roles in various types of lung cancer, including small-cell lung carcinomas (SCLC) and non-SCLC (NSCLC). Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the effects of miR-3934-5p on cell proliferation and apoptosis, and on sensitivity to cisplatin (DDP). Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis and western blotting were conducted for the analysis of mRN...

Knockdown of lncRNA-HOTAIR downregulates the drug-resistance of breast cancer cells to doxorubicin via the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway.
Authors: Li Z, Qian J, Li J, Zhu C Abstract The resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs is a critical feature of breast cancer recurrence and metastasis. Long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) serve key roles in tumor drug resistance. LncRNA-HOX transcript antisense RNA (HOTAIR) has been reported to be overexpressed in certain types of cancer and may be closely associated with tumor resistance. The current study aimed to investigate the role of lncRNA-HOTAIR in the regulation of breast cancer resistance to doxorubicin (DOX). A breast cancer cell line (MCF-7) and DOX-resistant breast cancer cell line (DOXR-MCF-7) were utilized...

Dysregulation of the TOX-RUNX3 pathway in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.
Authors: Dulmage BO, Akilov O, Vu JR, Falo LD, Geskin LJ Abstract Studies have examined gene expression changes in Sézary syndrome (SS), but disease pathogenesis remains largely unknown, and diagnosis and treatment are difficult. TOX is a transcription factor involved in CD4+ T-cell development with downstream effects on RUNX3, a known tumor suppressor gene. We sought to identify genes involved in SS disease pathogenesis with the potential to enable diagnosis and treatment. We utilized previously reported transcriptome sequencing data to construct a list of candidate genes, which was narrowed using pathway analysi...

PCAT1 is a poor prognostic factor in endometrial carcinoma and associated with cancer cell proliferation, migration and invasion.
In this study, we used 89 EC tissues and HEC-1B, Ishikawa, RL95-2 and AN3CA EC cell lines. We found elevated expression levels of PCAT1 in EC tissues and cell lines using reverse transcription qPCR (RT-qPCR). The prognostic value of PCAT1 was determined using Kaplan-Meier survival and Cox regression analysis. The results showed that higher PCAT1 expression was positively correlated with FIGO stage, myometrial invasion, lymph node metastasis, and a shorter overall survival. A series of functional assays showed that the knockdown of PCAT1 by small interfering RNA (siRNA) targeting PCAT1 (siPCAT1) suppressed cell proliferatio...

Glucocorticoids attenuate the sensitivity of glucocorticoid-resistant lymphoid cells to doxorubicin via reduction in OCTN2.
In this study, we examined whether GCs affected the sensitivities to vincristine (VCR)/doxorubicin (DOX) and the expression of drug transporters in GC-resistant cells. The dexamethasone (DEX)/prednisolone (PSL)-resistant lymphoid and non-lymphoid cell lines Raji and HL60 were cultured with DEX for 7 days and then treated with VCR or DOX for 3 days. Seven days of DEX treatment increased the IC50s of both VCR and DOX in Raji cells but not in HL60 cells. The mRNA and protein expression levels of organic cation/carnitine transporter (OCTN) 2, one of the drug uptake transporters expressed in both cell lines, were decreased on...
