Meta-analysis of primary care delivered buprenorphine treatment retention outcomes
Conclusions: While we only investigate BT through primary care, our findings indicate retention rates are equivalent to the rates reported in the specialty care literature. More work is needed to examine factors that may impact primary care delivered BT specifically and differentiate participants that may benefit from care delivered in specialty over primary care as well as the converse.PMID:37737714 | DOI:10.1080/00952990.2023.2251653

Network Analysis of Health-related Behaviors, Insomnia, and Depression Among Urban Left-behind Adolescents in China
This study aims to examine the symptom level associations among multiple health-related behaviors, insomnia, and depression in urban LBA. Data on a sample of urban LBA aged 11-19 (N = 3,601) from the Adolescent Mental Health Survey in Shenzhen, China, were used. Health-related behaviors (i.e., Internet use, physical inactivity, social jetlag, smoking, and alcohol consumption), insomnia, and depressive symptoms were assessed using a self-administered questionnaire. Graphical Gaussian Model (GGM) was used to describe key bridging nodes in an undirected network. Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) was used to construct a directed ne...

Sex difference in alcohol withdrawal syndrome: a scoping review of clinical studies
ConclusionDespite the significant heterogeneity of the studies selected and the lack of a focus on investigating potential sex differences, this review of clinical studies on AWS suggests that men and women exhibit different AWS manifestations. Large-scale studies focusing specifically on investigating sex difference in AWS are needed.

Lifestyle habits and gastric cancer in an East Asian population: a Mendelian randomization study
CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggests that tea intake may reduce the risk of GC, for which smoking is a potential risk factor. Nevertheless, a larger and more diverse sample size is needed for further validation.PMID:37731647 | PMC:PMC10507616 | DOI:10.3389/fonc.2023.1224753

Role of tissue markers associated with tumor microenvironment in the progression and immune suppression of oral squamous cell carcinoma
Med Oncol. 2023 Sep 20;40(10):303. doi: 10.1007/s12032-023-02169-5.ABSTRACTHead and neck cancers (HNC) continues to dominate major cancers contributing to mortality worldwide. Squamous cell carcinoma is the major type of HNC. Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma grouped under HNC is a malignant tumor occurring in the oral cavity. The primary risk factors of OSCC are tobacco, alcohol consumption, etc. This review focuses on modulations, mechanisms, growth and differentiation of oral squamous cell carcinoma. Cancer cell surrounds itself with a group of elements forming a favorable environment known as tumor microenvironment (TME). I...

Multi-Functional Organofluoride Catalysts for Polyesters Production and Upcycling Degradation
ChemSusChem. 2023 Sep 21:e202300907. doi: 10.1002/cssc.202300907. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe production and degradation of polyesters are two crucial processes in polyester materials'life cycle. In this work, multi-functional organocatalysts based on fluorides for both processes are described. Organofluorides were developed as catalysts for ring-opening polymerization of lactide (lactone). Compared with a series of organohalides, organofluoride performed the best catalytic reactivity because of the hydrogen bond interaction between F- and alcohol initiator. The Mn values of polyester products could be up to 72 kg mo...

Harnessing the Peterson Reaction for the Stereospecific Synthesis of Z-Vinyl Ethers
Chemistry. 2023 Sep 21:e202302708. doi: 10.1002/chem.202302708. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVinyl ethers are valuable synthetic intermediates which are also found as natural products, including aflatoxins, rifamycins and plasmalogens. The latter are ubiquitous phospholipids in human cells and contain a vinyl ether moiety with specifically Z configuration. Although numerous methods are available for synthesis of vinyl ethers, there is a lack of methods for obtaining Z isomers of molecules of the type RCH=CHOR' that are applicable to plasmalogens. A variant of the Peterson reaction is described that generates such molecule...

Photo-Induced Carbonylation of Aryl Bromides for the Synthesis of Aryl Esters and Amides under Transition Metal-Free Conditions
Chem Asian J. 2023 Sep 20:e202300766. doi: 10.1002/asia.202300766. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this work, we developed a photo-induced carbonylation of aryl bromides under transition metal-free conditions. The reaction shows good activity with alcohol and amine nucleophiles. Various esters and amides were formed from aryl halides and alcohols and amines under mild conditions in moderate to good yields.PMID:37730903 | DOI:10.1002/asia.202300766

Weight-independent effects of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery on remission of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in mice
CONCLUSIONS: RYGB improved whole-body composition and hepatic lipid homeostasis to a greater extent than CR in mice. RYGB was associated with discrete remodeling of the hepatic transcriptome, suggesting that surgery may be mechanistically additive to CR.PMID:37731222 | DOI:10.1002/oby.23876
