Continuing decline in the prevalence of cerebral palsy in Denmark for birth years 2008-2013
CONCLUSION: We found a decrease in prevalence and severity in CP among Danish children. The decline was most pronounced in children born after 37 gestational weeks with severe subtypes of CP. National guidelines that recommend induction of labour before the completion of week 42 and therapeutic hypothermia for term neonates with hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy, may have contributed to the decline.PMID:34756357 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejpn.2020.10.003

Association between intention to call EMS in stroke patients and level of hospital classification and emergency medical service usage among stroke patients in China
CONCLUSIONS: Patients in tertiary hospitals were significantly more likely to use the EMS promptly compared to patients in primary or secondary hospitals. Therefore, patient education on timely EMS usage at stroke onset should be enhanced in primary and secondary hospitals in China.PMID:34783353 | DOI:10.5603/PJNNS.a2021.0083

Education and Decision Making at the Time of Triptan Prescribing: Patient Expectations vs Actual Practice
ConclusionsBased on this study, it is clear that patients prefer the shared model approach to medical decision making in regards to the prescription of triptans. The majority of patients received education that was generally consistent with their desires. Patients preferred that the prescribing provider be the primary source of information. The most desired educational topics included when/if a triptan should be taken, the number of times a triptan can be taken for a single migraine, co‐administration with other acute medications, and the most common side effects. Focusing on these topics should enhance patient satisfact...

Impact of medical academic genealogy on publication patterns: An analysis of the literature for surgical resection in brain tumor patients
“Academic genealogy” refers to the linking of scientists and scholars based on their dissertation supervisors. We propose that this concept can be applied to medical training and that this “medical academic genealogy” may influence the landscape of the peer‐reviewed literature. We performed a comprehensive PubMed search to identify US authors who have contributed peer‐reviewed articles on a neurosurgery topic that remains controversial: the value of maximal resection for high‐grade gliomas (HGGs). Training information for each key author (defined as the first or last author of an article) was collected (eg, a...

The natural history of continuing improvement in an individual after a long period of impaired consciousness: The story of I.J.
CONCLUSION: This study shows that continuing recovery to a level of moderate disability is possible, even after a prolonged disorder of consciousness. Intense multi-disciplinary long-term rehabilitation and cranioplasty may be contributing factors for such an unexpected recovery. PMID: 26680113 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
