Neurophobia among undergraduate medical students: a European experience beyond the Anglosphere
CONCLUSION: Neurophobia is prevalent among Spanish medical students too. Having identified the teaching methodology as one of its fundamental causes, neurologists have the opportunity and obligation to reverse this situation. We should strive for more proactive involvement of neurologists at earlier stages of medical education.PMID:37231548 | DOI:10.33588/rn.7611.2023102

International electives in neurology training: A survey of US and Canadian program directors
Conclusions: In spite of high perceived interest, only half of US neurology training programs include international electives, mostly due to a reported lack of funding. By contrast, the majority of Canadian programs that responded allow international electives, likely due to clearer guidelines from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada compared to the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education. However, the number of both Canadian and US neurology trainees venturing abroad remains a minority. Most program directors are interested in learning more information related to global health electives for neurology residents.

Can Young European Neurologists Comfortably Manage Patients With Traumatic Brain, Spine Or Nerve Injuries (TBI)? (P1.309)
CONCLUSIONS: our results clearly indicate that young European neurologists need and wish to improve their knowledge in the field of Neurotraumatology. Since little formal training exists, teaching sessions and focused workshops at (inter)national congresses may be a first step to improve education in this field.Disclosure: Dr. Rakusa has received personal compensation for activities with Pfizer Inc. as a speaker. Preparing Child Neurology Residents for Inpatient Adult Neurology (P1.311)
CONCLUSIONS:Some of the most commonly encountered scenarios in care of adult neurology patients are those for which child neurology residents rated themselves as least prepared. Additional preparation for incoming pediatric residents should focus on topics which are frequently encountered on the adult service and which are least familiar to child neurology residents.Disclosure: Dr. Johnson has nothing to disclose. Assessment of Stroke Knowledge and Attitudes among Riyadh Medical Students: A Cross-sectional Study (P2.303)
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated average medical students’ knowledge of stroke and identified knowledge gaps in different domains of basic stroke knowledge. Stroke education modules should be incorporated into the preclinical curriculum and neurology or stroke clerkships should be mandatory for all students. Emphasizing the high risk of stroke recurrence in patients with minor or transient symptoms is crucial for decreasing the burden of stroke.Disclosure: Dr. Al Zwahmah has received personal compensation in an editorial capacity for Neurosciences Journal.

Formal Faculty Assessment of Bedside Skills for 3rd Year Medical Students on the Neurology Clerkship: The Year Two Experience (s19.007)
Conclusions: Incorporating a new process for assigning faculty to students in Year 2 increased faculty completion to 100[percnt]. Low correlation between BSE score and other evaluations indicated a unique measurement to contribute to student grade. Using real patients was feasible as BSE score did not change with case complexity.Disclosure: Dr. Thompson-Stone has nothing to disclose. Dr. Mooney has nothing to disclose. Education Research: Changing medical student perceptions of dementia: An arts-centered experience
Conclusions: Although further study is warranted to confirm findings, given the increasing availability of such programs, it is reasonable to consider inclusion of these alongside other nonclinical programs that are already part of medical school curricula.

Utility of an Emergency Neurologic Life Support- based simulation course for First Year Neurology resident independent call readiness: A Quality Improvement Project (P1.064)
Conclusions:We have shown that an ENLS–based simulation course can be utilized as part of the education and preparation of PGY-2 neurology residents for independent call. This course has the potential to be part of neurology "boot camp" programs. Projects involving larger groups of residents and more objective assessment should be done.Disclosure: Dr. Bashir has nothing to disclose. Dr. Lerant has nothing to disclose. Epilepsy Education: Recent Advances and Future Directions.
Abstract PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The goal of this review is to survey the current literature on education in epilepsy and provide the most up-to-date information for physicians involved in the training of future doctors on this topic. We intended to review what opportunities exist to enhance our current teaching practices that may not be well-known or widely used, but may be adapted to a broader audience. RECENT FINDINGS: Many new techniques adopting principles of education (e.g., retrieval practice and spaced learning) or new technologies (e.g., pre-recorded lectures, computer-enhanced modules, and simulation pra...
