Bronchiectasis and obstructive lung diseases in primary antibody deficiencies and beyond: update on management and pathomechanisms
Purpose of review Pulmonary complications are among the most frequent manifestations in patients with primary antibody deficiency (PAD), contributing significantly to morbidity and mortality. Here, we focus on recent findings in obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchiectasis in PAD. Since specific data on patients with PAD is limited and management mostly follows general recommendations, this review also aims to summarize data from the immunocompetent population. Recent findings Potential risk factors for the development and progression of bronchiectasis include reduced immunoglobulins and lower CD4 cells. In ...

Narrative Review of the Role of Patient-Reported Outcomes and Inhaler Handling Errors in the Control of Asthma and COPD
AbstractPurpose of ReviewAsthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are chronic respiratory diseases that remain uncontrolled in many patients, despite the wide range of therapeutic options available. This review analyzes the available clinical evidence on 3 budesonide/formoterol DPI devices, Spiromax®, Turbuhaler®, and Easyhaler®, in terms of patient-reported outcomes (PROs), inhaler errors, and asthma and COPD control.Recent FindingsThe effectiveness of dry powder inhalers (DPI) depends largely on the device and the patient ’s inhaler technique. Equally important are the patient’s perception of the in...

Peripheral Blood Expressions of MicroRNA-146a and MicroRNA-218 in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease with/without Cigarette Smoke Exposure
Iran J Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2022 Aug 12;21(4):399-406. doi: 10.18502/ijaai.v21i4.10287.ABSTRACTAltered expression and dysregulation of microRNAs (miRNAs) have been reported in different samples of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. The present study attempted to evaluate the peripheral expressions of miR-146a and miR-218 in COPD patients and sex-matched healthy controls with/without cigarette smoke exposure (CSE). In this case-control study, blood samples were collected from 60 COPD patients (30 with CSE and 30 non-CSE in each group) and 60 healthy controls. Peripheral expressions of miRNA-146a and m...
