Patient-Reported Outcome Measures for Fatigue in Patients on Hemodialysis: A Systematic Review
Conclusions A very wide range of measures have been used to assess fatigue in patients receiving hemodialysis, each varying in content and length. Many have limited validation data available in this population. A standardized and psychometrically robust measure that captures dimensions of fatigue that are important to patients is needed to estimate and improve this disabling complication of hemodialysis.

Balloon Angioplasty Versus Stenting for the Treatment of Failing Arteriovenous Grafts: A Meta-Analysis.
CONCLUSION: Stenting is associated with better technical success and patency rates compared with plain angioplasty in treating failed or malfunctioning chronic haemodialysis AVGs, and thus it should be considered as the first line therapeutic option. A Review of the Clinical Toxicology of Yew Poisoning.
CONCLUSIONS: Most nonintentional ingestions of yew plant constituents are asymptomatic and require little intervention. Severe poisoning can result in life-threatening cardiac toxicity and require aggressive supportive care. Therapeutic interventions, such as sodium bicarbonate, digoxin immune fab, and hemodialysis that have been utilized in case studies and case series in the literature have little proven benefit. Extracorporeal life support should be considered in severe yew poisoning. PMID: 29363354 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Hepatitis B Virus Infection in Iranian Hemodialysis Patients: a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: To our knowledge, this was the first comprehensive systematic review of HBV infection in the hemodialysis patients of Iran. Results could be useful for informed health policy making and planning further studies in this field. PMID: 29421769 [PubMed - in process]

Structured physical assessment of arteriovenous fistulae in haemodialysis access surveillance: A missed opportunity?
CONCLUSION: The analysis of evidence demonstrates that physical assessment of arteriovenous fistulae is an effective method of detecting arteriovenous fistulae dysfunction and is a skill that can be taught. A structured physical assessment and its implementation may be significant in routine care, but research into the most effective physical assessment techniques and its impact on clinical practice in haemodialysis is required. Spondylodiscitis in end-stage renal disease: a systematic review.
CONCLUSIONSSeveral risk factors lead to failure of antibiotics and progression of disease in patients with ESRD. Challenges to diagnosis include vague presenting symptoms, co-existing destructive spondyloarthropathy, poor immune response, chronic elevations of inflammatory markers, and recurrent bacteremia. Infectious processes are more likely to cause permanent neurological deficits than transient deficits. The authors recommend close observation and serial imaging of these patients for early signs of neurological deficits. Any signs of disease progression will require aggressive surgical debridement. Major Traditional Probiotics: Comparative Genomic Analyses and Roles in Gut Microbiome of Eight Cohorts
This study provides conceptual advances that lays the foundation for future applications in personalized probiotics, which must consider both the species/strain heterogeneity and individual heterogeneity. Author Contributions GH and GL designed the study. GL, BL, CY, YW, XB, WL, and FL performed the experiments and analyzed the data. GL wrote the manuscript. Funding This research was supported by the National Key R&D Program of China (Grant No. 2017YFD0400303). Nucleoside Hydrolase NH 36: A Vital Enzyme for the Leishmania Genus in the Development of T-Cell Epitope Cross-Protective Vaccines
Conclusions Nucleoside hydrolases are vital enzymes for the replication of Leishmania, conserved phylogenetic marker of the genus and strong-specific immunogens. We demonstrated that NH36 is an excellent target for chemotherapy of visceral leishmaniasis. Searching for the most immunogenic fraction of promastigotes of Leishmania we described the FML antigen of L. (L.) donovani, that has as its main component, the NH36 Nucleoside hydrolase. We developed second–generation vaccines with the FML and the NH36 native antigens, and with the NH36 recombinant protein. In addition, we obtained a third generation vaccine base...

Comparison of risk of stroke in patients treated with peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Conclusions: We observed that PD patients were less likely to develop hemorrhagic stroke than HD patients, and the risk for ischemic stroke was significantly higher for PD patients than for HD patients among the non-Asian patients. However, our findings could be biased due to the heterogeneity of the included studies. PMID: 31296101 [PubMed - in process]

Prevalence of Hypertension in Renal Diseases in Iran: Systematic Review and Meta ‑Analysis
Hypertension is a risk factor for renal disease. Therefore, this study was aimedat estimating the prevalence of hypertension in renal patients in Iran through meta ‑analysis. The search was carried out using authentic Persian and English keywords in national and international databases including IranMedex, SID, Magiran, IranDoc, Medlib, ScienceDirect, Pubmed, Scopus, Cochrane, Embase, Web of Science, Medline, and Google Scholar search engine without any time limitation until 2017. Heterogeneity of studies was assessed using theI2index.Data were analyzed using STATA ver 11.In 35 reviewed studies with a sample of 39,621 sub...

Cather-related right atrial thrombosis.
CONCLUSION: Catheter-related right atrial thrombosis is an underdiagnosed complication of central venous catheter placement. For the hemodialysis population, a fistula-first approach is advocated. While many instances were asymptomatic, the development of unexplained fever, dyspnea, catheter dysfunction, or new murmur should trigger a search for this complication. A Systematic Review and Jurisdictional Scan of the Evidence Characterizing and Evaluating Assisted Peritoneal Dialysis Models.
CONCLUSIONS: Reported outcomes and quality were heterogeneous, and relative efficacy of assisted peritoneal dialysis could not be determined from included studies. Although the patient voice was under-represented, suggestions to improve assisted peritoneal dialysis included using a person-centered model of care, ensuring continuity of nurses providing the peritoneal dialysis assist, and measures to support patient independence. Although attractive elements of assisted peritoneal dialysis are identified, further evidence is needed to connect assisted peritoneal dialysis outcomes with programmatic features and their associat...

Blood pressure targets and pharmacotherapy for hypertensive patients on hemodialysis.
Authors: Maruyama T, Takashima H, Abe M Abstract Introduction: Hypertension is highly prevalent in patients with end-stage kidney disease on hemodialysis and is often not well controlled. Blood pressure (BP) levels before and after hemodialysis have a U-shaped relationship with cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. Although antihypertensive drugs are recommended for patients in whom BP cannot be controlled appropriately by non-pharmacological interventions, large-scale randomized controlled clinical trials are lacking.Areas covered: The authors review the pharmacotherapy used in hypertensive patients on dialysis,...

Prevalence and Mortality of Pulmonary Hypertension in ESRD: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
ConclusionsEchocardiographic evidence of PH is common among ESRD patients undergoing dialysis and associated with increased mortality. Identification of those patients with evidence of pulmonary hypertension on transthoracic echocardiography may warrant further evaluation and treatment.

Taking a Step Further in Identifying Ideal Blood Pressure Range Among Hemodialysis Patients: A Systematic Review and a Meta-Analysis
ConclusionThough not statically significant, the current study identifies <140 mm Hg as a promising blood pressure range for optimum survival among ESRD patients on hemodialysis. However, further studies are required to establish an ideal blood pressure range among hemodialysis patients.Systematic Review RegistrationThe study protocol was registered under PROSPERO (CRD42019121102).
