Risk factors for cataract in retinoblastoma management
Conclusions Repeated IAC and/or IvitC with melphalan were the most common eye-preserving therapies that induced cataract formation. The toxic effect of melphalan was an essential factor in cataract development, as indicated by the association of cataract occurrence with the melphalan dose. Advanced Interventional Treatments in Retinoblastoma Management: A Comprehensive Review
AbstractRetinoblastoma is the most common eye malignancy in children that if left untreated can invade intraocular structures, metastasize, and rarely lead to death. Traditionally treated with systemic chemotherapy, Intra-arterial chemotherapy is gaining popularity as it allows for the direct administration of chemotherapy through the ophthalmic artery, thus reducing systemic side effects. Intra-arterial chemotherapy procedures have evolved, with refinements to reduce risks and radiation exposure. Intra-arterial chemotherapy boasts an impressive technical success rate and one year ocular survival even amongst advanced case...

Subscaling of a cytosolic RNA binding protein governs cell size homeostasis in the multiple fission alga Chlamydomonas
by Dianyi Liu, Cristina Lopez-Paz, Yubing Li, Xiaohong Zhuang, James Umen Coordination of growth and division in eukaryotic cells is essential for populations of proliferating cells to maintain size homeostasis, but the underlying mechanisms that govern cell size have only been investigated in a few taxa. The green algaChlamydomonas reinhardtii (Chlamydomonas) proliferates using a multiple fission cell cycle that involves a long G1 phase followed by a rapid series of successive S and M phases (S/M) that produces 2n daughter cells. Two control points show cell-size dependence: the Commitment control point in mid-G1 phase r...

Small extracellular vesicles loaded with carboplatin effectively enhance the cytotoxicity of drug-resistant cells from Y79 cells-in vitro
This study demonstrates that sequential exposure to CPT generates DR clones of Y79 cells, which could serve as an appropriate model to evaluate the efficacy of drugs. The sEVs-CPT were highly effective in enhancing cytotoxicity in DR-Y79 cells, and appear to hold promise as a novel complimentary drug delivery system.PMID:38490156 | DOI:10.1016/j.biopha.2024.116403 (Source: Biomedicine and pharmacotherapy = Biomedecine and pharmacotherapie)

ZNF862 induces cytostasis and apoptosis via the p21-RB1 and Bcl-xL-Caspase 3 signaling pathways in human gingival fibroblasts
CONCLUSION: Our results for the first time reveal that ZNF862 is localized in the cytoplasm of HGFs. ZNF862 can inhibit the proliferation of HGFs by inhibiting the p21-RB1 signaling pathway, and it also promotes the apoptosis of HGFs by enhancing the Bcl-xL-Caspase 3 signaling pathway.PMID:38482719 | DOI:10.1111/jre.13250 (Source: Cell Research)

Advancements in super-selective catheterization and drug selection for intra-arterial chemotherapy for retinoblastoma: a 15-year evolution
Conclusions The overall rate of successful catheterization and IAC started high and has improved over 15 years, and catheterization-related complications are rare. There has been a significant trend towards triple chemotherapy over time. (Source: Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery)

Low expression of NR1D1 and NR2E3 is associated with advanced features of retinoblastoma
ConclusionThe expression levels of NR1D1 and NR2E3 were decreased in RB and closely associated with the clinical stage and high invasion of the disease. These findings provide new insights into the mechanism of RB progression and suggest that NR1D1 and NR2E3 could be potential targets for treatment strategies. (Source: International Ophthalmology)

Contributors : Finn Hallb öök ; Hanzhao Zhang ; Dardan Konjusha ; Nima RafatiSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Gallus gallusBackground: MYCN gene is a transcription factor whose amplification and overexpression can lead to tumorigenesis. In retina, MYCN overexpression is related to tumorigenesis of retinoblastoma, a childhood cancer. Purpose: To find out differentially expressed genes in MYCN-overexpressing cells, which will give information of MYCN-related gene expression and possibly find out new pathways in mechanism of retinoblastoma tumorigenesis with MYCN overexpression....

Di-n-butyl phthalate promotes the neural differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells through neurogenic differentiation 1
Environ Pollut. 2024 Mar 7:123722. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2024.123722. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn understanding of the risk of gene deletion and mutation posed by endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) is necessary for the identification of etiological reagents for many human diseases. Therefore, the characterization of the genetic traits caused by developmental exposure to EDCs is an important research subject. A new regenerative approach using embryonic stem cells (ESCs) holds promise for the development of stem-cell-based therapies and the identification of novel therapeutic agents against human diseases. Here, we f...
