Value of stimulated pre-ablation thyroglobulin as a prognostic marker in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma treated with radioiodine
ConclusionsTg pre-ablation is a valuable predictor of DTC incomplete response to treatment one year after RAIT. Levels of 4.4  ng/ml or more showed higher accuracy to predict this outcome. (Source: Endocrine)

Cancers, Vol. 14, Pages 1272: Molecular Imaging and Theragnostics of Thyroid Cancers
vcaricek Molecular imaging plays an important role in the evaluation and management of different thyroid cancer histotypes. The existing risk stratification models can be refined, by incorporation of tumor-specific molecular markers that have theranostic power, to optimize patient-specific (individualized) treatment decisions. Molecular imaging with varying radioisotopes of iodine (i.e., 131I, 123I, 124I) is an indispensable component of dynamic and theragnostic risk stratification of differentiated carcinoma (DTC) while [18F]F-fluorodeoxyglucose ([18F]FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) help...

Postoperative radioiodine therapy impact on survival in poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma: a population-based study
Purpose The true impact of postoperative radioiodine therapy on survival has been controversial for patients with poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma (PDTC). We aimed to determine the impact of postoperative radioiodine on survival in PDTC through a population-based study. Methods Data on patients with PDTC were collected from the US SEER database (2004 to 2015). Patients were divided into the radioiodine group and nonradioiodine group. Survival comparison between groups was evaluated by Kaplan–Meier curves, log-rank test and multivariate Cox regression analysis. Akaike information criterion was used to se...

Cancers, Vol. 14, Pages 501: Initial Evaluation of Therapy Response after Adjuvant Radioiodine Therapy in Patients with Early-Stage Papillary Thyroid Cancer & mdash;Does Time Matter?
Conclusion: DC at 6 months after RAI therapy and stimulation with recombinant human thyroid-stimulating hormone (rhTSH) represent the most balanced solution. Particularly regarding quality of life and mental relief of patients, early DC with rhTSH represents sufficient and convenient assessment of ablation success. (Source: Cancers)

Retrospective study of the influence of hypothyroidism on liver function before radioiodine therapy in China: a comparison analysis based on patients with differentiated thyroid cancer
Conclusions Patients with minor hepatic dysfunction and ortholiposis are more likely to recover to normal liver function. Patients with moderate hepatic dysfunction should be treated with hepatoprotective drugs. For men, FT4 and TG levels tended to be associated with hepatic dysfunction, and the prognosis of hepatic dysfunction was closely related to the TG level. (Source: BMJ Open)

123I Scintigraphy Mirror Image of Graves Disease Induced by Radioiodine Treatment for Toxic Adenoma
A 61-year-old woman presenting with hyperthyroidism received 131I therapy for a toxic adenoma diagnosed by 123I scintigraphy. Six months later, the patient had a relapse of hyperthyroidism, and 123I scintigraphy showed a mirror image of the first scintigraphy: a high and diffuse uptake in the thyroid gland except for the previously treated nodule. Graves disease was confirmed by elevated thyrotropin receptor antibodies. The patient was cured by a second radioiodine therapy. Radioiodine-induced Graves disease may occur within 6 months of 131I treatment of toxic adenoma and can be treated with a second line of 131I. (Source:...

Recombinant human thyrotropin (rhTSH)-aided radioiodine treatment for non-toxic multinodular goitre
CONCLUSIONS: RhTSH-aided radioiodine treatment for non-toxic multinodular goitre, compared to radioiodine alone, probably increased the risk of hypothyroidism but probably led to a greater reduction in thyroid volume. Data on QoL and costs were sparse or missing.PMID:34961921 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD010622.pub2 (Source: Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews)

Pregnancy exacerbated lymph node metastasis of well differentiated thyroid carcinoma: A case report
Conclusion: Pregnancy in differentiated thyroid cancer survivors should be managed and monitored with caution, especially when cancer recurrence is noticed. Further studies are recommended to investigate these previously unreported gene mutations associated with thyroid cancer. (Source: Medicine)

Re-Modelling 99m-Technetium Pertechnetate Thyroid Uptake; Statistical, Machine Learning and Deep Learning Approaches
Conclusion: Thyroid scintigraphy is useful in identifying hyperthyroid patients suitable for radioiodine therapy when using an appropriately validated cut-off for the patient population (4.5% in this population). ML ANN algorithms can be developed to improve accuracy as second readers systems when biochemistry results are available. DL CNN algorithms can be developed to improve accuracy in the absence of biochemistry results. ML and DL do not displace the role of the physician in thyroid scintigraphy but could be used as second reader systems to minimize errors and increase confidence.PMID:34876477 | DOI:10.2967/jnmt.121.2...
