Determinants of target absorbed dose in radionuclide therapy
The objective of this work was to derive expressions for the parameters affecting the absorbed dose to a target tissue for first-order activity kinetics. The activity uptake results from contributions from the first-pass activity flow through the target tissue preceding systemic equilibration and uptake after distribution of the administered compound in the body. The absorbed dose from uptake after equilibration is the product of the mean energy deposited per decay in the target tissue, the time integral of the plasma activity concentration, the plasma volume flow per unit target tissue mass, the probability of activity re...

The influence of stimulated thyroglobulin and lymphocyte subsets before radioiodine therapy on the therapeutic response in patients with intermediate- and high-risk papillary thyroid carcinoma
AbstractThe aim of the present study was to investigate the factors influencing the short-term response to the initial radioiodine therapy (RT) course in patients with intermediate- and high-risk papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). A total of 182 patients with intermediate- and high-risk PTC who underwent RT in our hospital from March 2018 to October 2020 were retrospectively enrolled. The patients were divided into incomplete response (IR) and nonincomplete response (Non-IR) groups according to the response observed in clinical follow-up within 6 –12 months after RT. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analy...

Radioiodine Therapy in Pediatric Differentiated Thyroid Cancer: Dosimetry, Clinical Care, and Future Challenges
Clin Nucl Med. 2022 Oct 14. doi: 10.1097/RLU.0000000000004431. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThyroid cancer is very rare in children. 131I therapy after thyroidectomy is established in pediatric differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). Pediatric DTC guideline is silent on the optimum amount of 131I that could be safely and effectively administered to children who are more radiosensitive. Like adult DTC, children are also given 131I therapy empirically based either on age or body weight. Pediatric DTC guideline recommends that patient-specific dosimetry is important in children. Still, due to the low incidence rate and the prac...

Possible added value of thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) testing in the evaluation of thyroidal status of subjects with overweight or obesity
ConclusionsOur results confirm a high prevalence of autoimmune thyroiditis (20%) in patients with obesity. TgAb may be associated with hypothyroidism in the absence of TPOAb. TgAb measurement may turn helpful to unravel a proportion of subjects that may have or may develop primary hypothyroidism requiring specific substitutive treatment. Analysis of Residence Time, Effective Half-Life, and Internal Dosimetry Before Radioiodine Therapy
Conclusion: Internal dosimetry provides information relevant to safe dose limits for DTC radioiodine therapy, especially in advanced cases of the disease for which greater activities may be necessary.PMID:36215644 | DOI:10.2967/jnmt.121.263502 (Source: Journal of Nuclear Medicine Technology)
