The Effects of Radioiodine Therapy on the Recovery of Parathyroid Function in Patients with Protracted Hypoparathyroidism after Total Thyroidectomy for Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: We found that 131I treatment significantly prolonged the RPF of patients with protracted hypoPT and caused late RPF (even beyond 12 months). The diagnosis of "permanent" hypoPT should be cautiously made at least 12 months after surgery, especially in patients who receive 131I treatment.PMID:36410743 | DOI:10.1080/08941939.2022.2146239 (Source: Journal of Investigative Surgery)

Patient-specific biokinetics and hybrid 2D/3D approach integration in OEDIPE software: Application to radioiodine therapy
Targeted radionuclide therapy (TRT) has demonstrated its clinical efficacy in treating malignant or benign thyroid disease with iodine-131 (I-131) [1 –3]. In addition to I-131, Y-90 microspheres are increasingly used for the treatment of liver cancers, as well as Lu-177 coupled with different tumour-specific vectors [4]. The clinical application of TRT with I-131 is commonly based on the administration of a fixed activity, regardless of the pat ient-specific biokinetics of the radiopharmaceutical, which could lead to an underdose preventing tumor control, or an overdose that may induce toxicity to the organs at risk [5]....

68Ga-DOTA-FAPI-04 PET/CT Imaging in a Case of Radioactive Iodine–Induced Chronic Parotitis
68Ga-DOTA-FAPI-04 is a promising PET agent for tumor imaging. However, inflammatory lesions can also show increased FAPI uptake. Herein, we reported a 52-year-old woman who underwent total thyroidectomy for thyroid papillary carcinoma 1 year ago and underwent adjuvant radioiodine therapy 1 month later. After 131I therapy, she began to develop pain and swelling in bilateral cheeks, which developed into oral dryness. The patient was diagnosed with radioactive iodine–induced parotitis. 68Ga-DOTA-FAPI-04 PET/CT showed the density of bilateral parotid glands increased, and the volume decreased with intense tracer uptake. 99mT...

Determinants of target absorbed dose in radionuclide therapy
The objective of this work was to derive expressions for the parameters affecting the absorbed dose to a target tissue for first-order activity kinetics. The activity uptake results from contributions from the first-pass activity flow through the target tissue preceding systemic equilibration and uptake after distribution of the administered compound in the body. The absorbed dose from uptake after equilibration is the product of the mean energy deposited per decay in the target tissue, the time integral of the plasma activity concentration, the plasma volume flow per unit target tissue mass, the probability of activity re...
