Distribution of Functional Status of Thyroid Nodules and Malignancy Rates of Hyperfunctioning and Hypofunctioning Thyroid Nodules in Germany
CONCLUSION: In Germany, the proportion of hyperfunctioning TNs is approximately 20% and increases in larger TNs to up to 27%. Due to the low risk of malignancy in hyperfunctioning TNs, no further procedures to rule out malignancy are necessary. The risk of malignancy of hypofunctioning TNs is significantly higher. Thus, a thyroid scintigraphy is a useful diagnostic tool in Germany.PMID:35917825 | DOI:10.1055/a-1856-4052 (Source: Nuklearmedizin)

Weight Gain and Body Composition Changes during the Transition of Thyroid Function in Patients with Graves' Disease Undergoing Radioiodine Treatment
CONCLUSION: 131I treatment caused significant weight gain in patients with Graves' disease. An undesirable body composition at presentation may be a risk factor for excessive weight gain after hyperthyroidism treatment.PMID:35898314 | PMC:PMC9314154 | DOI:10.1155/2022/5263973 (Source: International Journal of Endocrinology)

Kis rizik ójú differenciált pajzsmirigydaganatok retrospektív analízise: lobectomia a megfelelő választás?
CONCLUSIONS: Due to the frequent (13.5%) bilateral multifocality in T1-2 DTC patients, we suggest total thyroidectomy instead of lobectomy. After lobectomy, the follow-up of the contralateral tumours is almost impossible by ultrasonography due to the small tumour size (on average 2.8 mm) and frequently detected benign nodules; therefore the multifocality might remain undetected, which can distort the plan for adjuvant treatment. Tall cell variant papillary thyroid carcinoma impacts disease-free survival at the 10 % cut-point on multivariate analysis
CONCLUSION: TCV-PTC is significantly associated with larger tumors and a greater degree of ETE. The diagnosis of TCV-PTC significantly impacts DFS at the 10 % cut-point on multivariate analysis.PMID:35834884 | DOI:10.1016/j.prp.2022.154012 (Source: Pathology, Research and Practice)

Comparative evaluation of somatostatin and CXCR4 receptor expression in different types of thyroid carcinoma using well-characterised monoclonal antibodies
Papillary and follicular thyroid carcinomas can be treated surgically and with radioiodine therapy, whereas therapeutic options for advanced stage IV medullary and for anaplastic tumours are limited. Recently,... (Source: BMC Cancer)

Possible added value of thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) testing in the evaluation of thyroidal status of subjects with overweight or obesity
ConclusionsOur results confirm a high prevalence of autoimmune thyroiditis (20%) in patients with obesity. TgAb may be associated with hypothyroidism in the absence of TPOAb. TgAb measurement may turn helpful to unravel a proportion of subjects that may have or may develop primary hypothyroidism requiring specific substitutive treatment. I-131 false-positive uptake in a thymic cyst with expression of the sodium-iodide symporter: A case report
Rationale: I-131 radioiodine false-positive findings in postoperative patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) should be recognized to avoid unnecessary therapies. Patient concerns and diagnoses: A 50-year-old man underwent I-131 therapy 3 times, including the initial ablative therapy after total thyroidectomy for papillary thyroid cancer. The initial I-131 posttherapeutic whole-body scintigraphy showed 2 cervical and one superior mediastinal focal I-131 positive uptake lesions. The serum thyroglobulin level was negative every time when the radioiodine therapy was performed. Although the 2 cervical posi...
