Pre-treatment systemic inflammation response index and systemic immune inflammation in patients with primary central nerve system lymphoma as a useful prognostic indicator
ConclusionSimple, less expensive, and routinely ordered preoperative blood count assessments such as SIRI and SII predict the OS of patients with PCNSL. This study demonstrated that PCNSL is associated with pre-treatment systemic immune-inflammation states. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

Complete response to front-line therapies is associated with long-term survival in HIV-related lymphomas in Taiwan
CONCLUSIONS: PLWH with DLBCL or BL had OS rates compatible to patients without HIV infection. Better outcomes for patients achieving CR to front-line therapy and those with shorter cART duration before lymphoma diagnosis suggest an underlying biological distinction in the lymphomas and the involvement of immunity, which warrants further studies.PMID:38632022 | DOI:10.1016/j.jmii.2024.04.001 (Source: Journal of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infection)

Letter to editor: C ‑reactive protein levels, the prognostic nutritional index, and the lactate dehydrogenase‑to‑lymphocyte ratio are important prognostic factors in primary central nervous system lymphoma: a single‑center study of 223 patients
AbstractThis critique evaluates a letter to the editor discussing prognostic factors in primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL), focusing on C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, prognostic nutritional index (PNI), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)-to-lymphocyte ratio. While the letter provides valuable insights, limitations including reliance on a single-center dataset, lack of consideration for potential confounders, insufficient contextualization within existing literature, and limited discussion of clinical implications are identified. Addressing these limitations is crucial for enhancing the relevance and applicabili...

Clinical outcomes of etoposide and cytarabine as consolidation in elderly patients with primary CNS lymphoma
CONCLUSION: EA consolidation chemotherapy for transplant-ineligible, elderly patients with PCNSL improved response rates but showed a high relapse rate and short progression-free survival. The incidences of treatment-related mortality caused by hematologic toxicities and severe infections were very high, even after dose modification. Therefore, the use of EA consolidation should be reconsidered in elderly patients with PCNSL.PMID:38581718 | DOI:10.1093/oncolo/oyae059 (Source: The Oncologist)

An update on susceptibility ‐weighted imaging in brain gliomas
AbstractSusceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) has become a standard component of most brain MRI protocols. While traditionally used for detecting and characterising brain hemorrhages typically associated with stroke or trauma, SWI has also shown promising results in glioma assessment. Numerous studies have highlighted SWI ’s role in differentiating gliomas from other brain lesions, such as primary central nervous system lymphomas or metastases. Additionally, SWI aids radiologists in non-invasively grading gliomas and predicting their phenotypic profiles. Various researchers have suggested incorporating SWI as an ad junct...

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in plasma of patients with primary CNS lymphoma by digital droplet PCR
CONCLUSION: The low detection rate of MYD88 L265P and CD79B Y196 mutations in cfDNA in the plasma of PCNSL patients argues against its use in routine diagnostics. However, detection of MYD88 L265P by ddPCR in cfDNA in the plasma could be considered in challenging cases.PMID:38566053 | DOI:10.1186/s12885-024-12191-z (Source: Cancer Control)

Machine learning-based pathomics signature of histology slides as a novel prognostic indicator in primary central nervous system lymphoma
ConclusionAs a novel, non-invasive, and convenient approach, the newly developed pathomics signature is a powerful predictor of OS and PFS in PCNSL and might be a potential predictive indicator for therapeutic response. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)
