Residual diffusion-weighted imaging hyperintense signal in primary central nervous system lymphoma can predict early recurrence
ConclusionA residual DWI hyperintense signal at the end of treatment was statistically associated with shorter PFS. Among patients who achieved CR/CRu evaluated based on postcontrast T1WI, DWI could be a valuable additional sequence to predict the early recurrence of PCNSL. (Source: Journal of Neuro-Oncology)

GSE218284 Xenograft mouse model to investigate tropism to the CNS and retina in primary central nervous system lymphoma (second batch)
Contributors : Geoffroy Andrieux ; Melanie Boerries ; Lisa K Isbell ; Nikolas von BubnoffSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Homo sapiensPrimary diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) of the central nervous system (PCNSL) is a rare, extranodal lymphoma. Primary vitreo-retinal lymphoma (PVRL) occurs in 15-25% of PCNSL. CNS involvement also occurs in systemic diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, termed secondary central nervous system lymphoma (SCNSL). Despite intensive treatment, patient outcomes are poor when compared to DLBCL without CNS involvement. How and why lymphoma cells home to th...

Primary central nervous system lymphoma in elderly: An illustrative case of the new role of surgery and integrative medical management
CONCLUSION: This rare case highlights the potential of surgical intervention in the management of selected patients with PCNSL. The authors also underscore the recent, meta-analytic evidence on surgery followed by combined chemotherapy for the management of specific cases. The reported recovery in an elderly patient is noteworthy and adds to the literature on this rare subtype of brain tumors. Future research should consider investigating a potential profile of candidates for resection and combined chemotherapy in PCNSL.PMID:37810284 | PMC:PMC10559532 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_431_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

Comparison of the outcomes of patients with primary central nervous system lymphoma between the neurosurgery and hematology/oncology departments based on the relative dose intensity of methotrexate
Oncol Lett. 2023 Sep 19;26(5):469. doi: 10.3892/ol.2023.14056. eCollection 2023 Nov.ABSTRACTPrimary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is an extranodal type of lymphoma, which is treated with methotrexate (MTX)-based induction therapy. Although PCNSL is a hematological malignancy, patients with PCNSL may be treated at neurosurgery or hematology/oncology departments; however, the outcomes of PCNSL treatment have not been compared between these two departments. The present study compared the outcomes of 26 patients with newly diagnosed PCNSL that were treated at the Department of Neurological Surgery or Department of He...
