New treatment strategies for primary lymphoma of the central nervous system
Nervenarzt. 2023 Nov 1. doi: 10.1007/s00115-023-01561-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrimary central nervous system lymphomas (PCNSL) are rare highly aggressive diffuse large B cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas confined to the brain, meninges, the spinal cord and the eyes. Although the implementation of high-dose methotrexate-based chemotherapy has significantly improved the prognosis of PCNSL during the last decades, about one third of patients show refractory disease and about half of the patients eventually relapse after having achieved complete response. This highlights the need for novel treatment strategies. The most prom...

Impact of Folinic Acid Dosing on Efficacy and Toxicity of High-Dose Methotrexate in Central Nervous System Lymphoma
High-dose methotrexate (HDMTX)-based regimens are the treatment of choice in primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL). Folinic acid (FA) rescue is used to mitigate the toxic effects of MTX on normal cells. However, the optimal dosing of FA in PCNSL remains uncertain. (Source: Clinical Lymphoma, Myeloma and Leukemia)

Impact of multimorbidity and polypharmacy on mortality after cancer: a  nationwide registry-based cohort study in Denmark 2005-2017
Conclusion: We found that multimorbidity and polypharmacy was associated with higher mortality in patients diagnosed with cancer types that typically have a favorable prognosis compared with patients without multimorbidity and polypharmacy. Multimorbidity and polypharmacy had less impact on mortality in cancers that typically have a poor prognosis.PMID:37874076 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2270145 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

Analysis of False-negative Findings of the Incomparable Accuracy and Swiftness of Flow Cytometric Diagnosis of Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma
This study aimed to reveal the utility of FCM diagnosis for PCNSL and the cause of false-negative results of FCM diagnosis. We investigated 33 patients with suspected PCNSL on neuroradiological findings and received both FCM and histological diagnosis. The patients' electronic medical records were investigated, and histological findings, results of FCM, and other clinical data were evaluated. Overall, 27 patients (14 males and 13 females) were diagnosed with PCNSL by histological confirmation. The median age at diagnosis was 68 years. FCM analysis showed lymphoma pattern in 24 cases; however, FCM results did not show lymph...
