Immunogenicity and lot-to-lot consistency of booster shot with Sabin inactivated poliomyelitis vaccine in Chinese children aged 18-24 Months: A phase Ⅳ clinical trial
In conclusion, as the anti-poliovirus antibodies gradually waned one year post sIPV primary vaccination, especially the type 2 antibody waned to a very low level, suggesting the importance of the booster immunization for children at the age of 18-24 months old. The booster shot can greatly enhance the antibody level and protect children from the potential risk of infection with WPV and VDPV by supplementing the anti-poliovirus type 2 immunity gap in the current real world. Clinic Trial Registration. NCT04224519.PMID:38388236 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.02.042 (Source: Vaccine)

In July 2022, a confirmed case of paralytic polio in an unvaccinated adult resident of Rockland County, New York was reported by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and Rockland County Department of Health (RCDOH). While only one case was identified, a single case of paralytic polio represents a public health emergency in the United States. The patient's county of residence was identified to have low vaccination cove...

Observational analysis of the immunogenicity and safety of various types of spinal muscular atrophy vaccines
ConclusionThese findings indicated that both the oral vaccine and inactivated vaccine had good safety and immunogenicity in infants aged  ≥ 2 months. The sIPV group generated higher levels of neutralizing antibodies in serum, particularly evident in the post-immunization GMT levels for types II and III. (Source: Inflammopharmacology)

Pentavalent and poliomyelitis vaccines: a review of the vaccination coverage in Brazilian children in the last 10  years
AbstractThe pentavalent and poliomyelitis vaccines are provided to children through the National Immunization Program in Brazil. For the last few years, this program has been responsible for eradication of various diseases in the country. To describe the vaccination coverage of the pentavalent vaccine and the polio vaccine in Brazil from 2013 to 2022. This is a retrospective and descriptive study with a time series component in which we analyzed vaccination coverage rates of pentavalent and poliomyelitis in the national vaccination program of Brazil from 2013 to 2022. The collected data were arranged in spreadsheets, analy...

Determinants of immunization in polio super high-risk union councils of Pakistan
CONCLUSION: Context-specific strategies with more focus on community engagement and targeted mobilization, along with robust monitoring mechanisms, would help address the underlying challenges of under-immunization in the SHRUCs.PMID:38143197 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.12.056 (Source: Vaccine)

Effectiveness of a vaccine recovery plan after the COVID-19 pandemic in the Siracusa Local Health Authority, Italy. Results of one year follow-up
CONCLUSIONS: Despite the efforts to organize and realize an extensive and well-designed vaccination recovery, our data show that even after the 1-year follow-up, globally deficits in coverage for these routine vaccinations persist, although there has been a substantial and significant recovery of missed vaccinations, especially among younger children and for primary cycles.PMID:38125998 | PMC:PMC10730062 | DOI:10.15167/2421-4248/jpmh2023.64.3.3001 (Source: Cancer Control)

Congenital malformations of the brain misinterpreted as sequelae of poliomyelitis
CONCLUSION: The motor deficits acquired in childhood enable the majority of the patients to successfully master their lives. Because of the limited compensatory capacities of postpolio patients, even small increases in the severity of the palsy can cause a severe decline of the functional status and an impairment of the ability to live an independent life. In a substantial proportion of patients with the diagnosis poliomyelitis the symptoms are caused by other diseases.PMID:38108898 | DOI:10.1007/s00391-023-02264-2 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Gerontologie und Geriatrie)

Approaches to pandemic prevention – the chromatin vaccine
Developing effective vaccines against viral infections have significant impacts on development, prosperity and well-being of human populations. Thus, successful vaccines such as smallpox and polio vaccines, have promoted global societal well-being. In contrast, ineffective vaccines may fuel arguments that retard scientific progress. We aim to stimulate a multilevel discussion on how to develop effective vaccines against recent and future pandemics by focusing on acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), coronavirus disease (COVID) and other viral infections. We appeal to harnessing recent achievements in this field specif...
