Who shares fake news on social media? Evidence from vaccines and infertility claims in sub-Saharan Africa
by Kerstin Unfried, Jan Priebe The widespread dissemination of misinformation on social media is a serious threat to global health. To a large extent, it is still unclear who actually shares health-related misinformation deliberately and accidentally. We conducted a large-scale online survey among 5,307 Facebook users in six su b-Saharan African countries, in which we collected information on sharing of fake news and truth discernment. We estimate the magnitude and determinants of deliberate and accidental sharing of misinformation related to three vaccines (HPV, polio, and COVID-19). In an OLS framework we relate the act...

Immunogenicity and safety of adsorbed diphtheria-purified pertussis-tetanus-inactivated polio (Sabin strain)-Haemophilus type b conjugate combined vaccine (DPT-IPV-Hib) in healthy Japanese Infants  ≥ 2 and  & lt;  43 months of Age: A phase III, multicenter, active controlled, assessor-blinded, randomized, parallel-group study
CONCLUSION: A single-agent Gobik, the first DPT-IPV-Hib pentavalent vaccine approved in Japan, was confirmed to simultaneously provide primary and booster immunizations against Hib infection, pertussis, diphtheria, tetanus, and poliomyelitis and to have a preventive effect and safety comparable to concomitant vaccination with Hib (ActHIB®) and DPT-IPV quadrivalent vaccine (Tetrabik).PMID:38582691 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.03.077 (Source: Vaccine)

Maintaining the Region of the Americas free of polio: best practices for incident management support teams
Rev Panam Salud Publica. 2024 Apr 1;48:e23. doi: 10.26633/RPSP.2024.23. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTThe Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and its Member States have been leading the efforts to eradicate wild poliovirus in the Region of Americas since smallpox's successful elimination in 1971. The region became the first to be certified free of wild poliovirus in 1994. However, in July 2022, an unvaccinated patient with no recent travel history was diagnosed with poliomyelitis in the United States of America. In response to the emergence of a circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus in the United States, PAHO established t...

Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis, Human Papillomavirus, and microRNA
CONCLUSION: This finding suggests that in cases where individuals receiving HPV vaccination experience psychiatric or neurological symptoms, it should be considered to diagnose anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, given the exclusion of other possible complications.PMID:38549528 | DOI:10.2174/0109298673264615231124072130 (Source: Current Medicinal Chemistry)

Inequities and trends of polio immunisation among children aged 12-23 months in Ethiopia: a multilevel analysis of Ethiopian demographic and health survey
Conclusion Although polio immunisation coverage gradually increased over time, in the 20-year survey periods, still 40% of children remained unvaccinated. Inequities in coverage by wealth, educational status, urban–rural residence and administrative regions persisted. Increasing service coverage and improving equitable access to immunisations services may narrow the existing inequity gaps. (Source: BMJ Open)

An inactivated whole-virion vaccine for Enterovirus D68 adjuvanted with CpG ODN or AddaVax elicits potent protective immunity in mice
Vaccine. 2024 Mar 11:S0264-410X(24)00303-7. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.03.016. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEnterovirus D68 (EV-D68), a pathogen that causes respiratory symptoms, mainly in children, has been implicated in acute flaccid myelitis, which is a poliomyelitis-like paralysis. Currently, there are no licensed vaccines or treatments for EV-D68 infections. Here, we investigated the optimal viral inactivation reagents, vaccine adjuvants, and route of vaccination in mice to optimize an inactivated whole-virion (WV) vaccine against EV-D68. We used formalin, β-propiolactone (BPL), and hydrogen peroxide as viral inact...
