Surveillance To Track Progress Toward Poliomyelitis Eradication - Worldwide, 2021-2022
This report updates previous reports (7,9) to describe surveillance performance during 2021-2022 in 34 priority countries.* In 2022, a total of 26 (76.5%) priority countries met the two key AFP surveillance performance indicator targets nationally compared with 24 (70.6%) countries in 2021; however, substantial gaps remain in subnational areas. Environmental surveillance expanded to 725 sites in priority countries, a 31.1% increase from the 553 sites reported in 2021. High-quality surveillance is critical to rapidly detect poliovirus transmission and enable prompt poliovirus outbreak response to stop circulation. Frequent ...

Guillain ‐Barré syndrome following COVID‐19 vaccination: An updated systematic review of cases
Prisma Flow diagram of the studies included in the systematic review;GBS following COVID-19 vaccination. Key Clinical MessageGuillain-Barr é syndrome (GBS) is a rare but possible complication that may occur after COVID-19 vaccination. In this systematic review, we found that GBS presented in patients with an average age of 58. The average time for symptoms to appear was 14.4 days. Health care providers should be aware of this potent ial complication.AbstractMost instances of Guillain-Barr é syndrome (GBS) are caused by immunological stimulation and are discovered after vaccinations for tetanus toxoid, oral polio, and s...

Vaccine Derived Poliovirus (VDPV)
Infez Med. 2023 Jun 1;31(2):174-185. doi: 10.53854/liim-3102-5. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTPoliomyelitis is caused by Poliovirus, a member of a large group of enteroviruses. Vaccine-derived polioviruses (VDPVs) stem from mutated live poliovirus, which is contained in the Oral Polio Virus vaccine (OPV). In addition, the emergence of VDPV is one of the global challenges for the eradication of poliomyelitis. VDPVs continue to affect different parts of the world; 1081 cases occurred in 2020 and 682 cases in 2021. There are several reasons that may have caused the increase in circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVDPV) after t...
