Comparative Genomic Analysis of TCP Genes in Six Rosaceae Species and Expression Pattern Analysis in Pyrus bretschneideri
This study explored the evolution of TCP genes in six Rosaceae species, and the expression pattern of TCP genes in different tissues of “Dangshan Su” pear. Candidate genes related to flower induction and stone cell formation were identified. In summary, our research provided an important theoretical basis for improving pear fruit quality and increasing fruit yield by molecular breeding. (Source: Frontiers in Genetics)

New J. Chem., 2021, Advance Article DOI: 10.1039/D1NJ00470K, PaperJaidev Kaushik, Vishrant Kumar, Anjali Kumari Garg, Prashant Dubey, Kumud Malika Tripathi, Sumit Kumar Sonkar Herein, fabrication of a functionalized graphene aerogel (f-GA) from a biomass (pear fruit)-derived graphene aerogel (GA) is described. f-GA is showing better adsorption capacity towards CV, MB and RhB dyes than GA and activated charcoal. Development of active and smart packaging films based on starch, polyvinyl alcohol and betacyanins from different plant sources
In this study, active and smart packaging films were prepared by individually adding betacyanins-rich plant extracts (red pitaya flesh extract (RPFE), prickly pear fruit extract (PPFE), red beetroot extract (RBRE), globe amaranth flower extract (GAFE) and red amaranth leaf extract (RALE)) into starch/polyvinyl alcohol. The structural, physical and functional properties of the films containing betacyanins from different plant sources were compared for the first time. Results showed betacyanins from RPFE, PPFE and RBRE were betanin-type betacyanins. Betacyanins from GAFE and RALE were gomphrenin-type and amaranthin-type beta...

The sustainability to watercore is one of the most important characterization to be studied it the breeding of the Japanese pear. However, even in susceptible cultivars like ‘Hosui’, the degree of watercore development is significantly different from year to year, this m...

Functional analysis of four Class III peroxidases from Chinese pear fruit: a critical role in lignin polymerization
Physiol Mol Biol Plants. 2021 Mar;27(3):515-522. doi: 10.1007/s12298-021-00949-9. Epub 2021 Feb 20.ABSTRACTPear fruit could be used as good medicine to relieve coughs, promote salivation, nourish lungs, and reduce the risk of many diseases for its phytochemical action. Lignin is a major secondary metabolite in Chinese pear fruit. Class III peroxidase (Class III PRX) is an important enzyme in the biosynthesis of lignin in plants. However, we poorly understand the role of PRXs in lignin biosynthesis in Chinese pear fruit. In our study, we cloned five PRXs from Chinese pear (Pyrus bretschneideri), namely PbPRX2, PbPRX22, PbPR...

Identification and characterization of invertase family genes reveal their roles in vacuolar sucrose metabolism during Pyrus bretschneideri Rehd. fruit development
Genomics. 2021 Mar 8:S0888-7543(21)00099-9. doi: 10.1016/j.ygeno.2021.01.028. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACT23 invertase (PbrInvs) genes, including eight vacuolar invertases (PbrvacInvs), five cell wall invertases (PbrcwInvs) and 10 alkaline/neutral invertases (PbrA/N-Invs), were identified from P. bretschneideri Rehd. genome, with diverse chromosome locations, cis-acting elements, gene structures and motifs. Their expression profiles were tissue-specific, and postharvest light or temperature treatment would alter their expression profiles. During 'Dangshansuli' pear development, in association with visual/inner quality ch...

Plant growth regulators to increase fruit set and yield of 'Rocha' pear trees in Southern Brazil.
Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different aminoethoxyvinilglycine (AVG), thidiazuron (TDZ) and prohexadione calcium (P-Ca) rates sprayed at different timings on fruit set, yield, and fruit quality of 'Rocha' pear trees in different climatic conditions of Southern Brazil. The study was performed in two commercial orchards located in São Joaquim, SC (2015/2016) and Antônio Prado, RS (2016/2017). Plant material consisted of 'Rocha' pear trees grafted onto Pyrus calleryana and quince rootstock 'BA29' in São Joaquim and Antônio Prado, respectively. Treatments consisted of AVG, T...

Molecules, Vol. 26, Pages 725: Packham ’s Triumph Pears (Pyrus communis L.) Post-Harvest Treatment during Cold Storage Based on Chitosan and Rue Essential Oil
In this study, a protective effect on the quality properties of pears was evidenced after the surface application of chitosan-Ruta graveolens essential oil coatings (CS + RGEO) in four different concentrations (0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 %, v/v) during 21 days of storage under 18 °C. After 21 days of treatment, a weight loss reduction of 10% (from 40.2 ± 5.3 to 20.3 ± 3.9) compared to the uncoated pears was evident with CS + RGEO 0.5%. All the fruits’ physical-chemical properties evidenced a protective effect of the coatings. The maturity index increased for all the treatmen...
