Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1446: Mycotransformation of Commercial Grade Cypermethrin Dispersion by Aspergillus terreus PDB-B Strain Isolated from Lake Sediments of Kulamangalam, Madurai
ba Nester A fungal isolate Aspergillus terreus PDB-B (accession number: MT774567.1), which could tolerate up to 500 mg/L of cypermethrin, was isolated from the lake sediments of Kulamangalam tropical lake, Madurai, and identified by internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequencing followed by phylogenetic analysis. The biotransformation potential of the strain was compared with five other strains (A, J, UN2, M1 and SM108) as a consortium, which were tentatively identified as Aspergillus glaucus, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus terreus, and Aspergillus flavus, respectively. Batch culture and soil microcos...

Bioleaching of Cd from contaminated Helianthus annuus L. stalk and the safe utilization of its byproducts by Aspergillus niger
This study employed innovative approach to use Aspergillus niger (A. niger) for the treatment of Cd-contaminated Helianthus annuus L. (sunflower) stalk after phytoremediation. Single-factor results showed that the removal of Cd at an initial pH of 3 was superior to sucrose and inoculation amount. 67.67% of Cd was removed by A. niger leaching system after 11 days based on response surface methodology optimum conditions (sucrose: 76.266 g L-1; inoculation amount: 10%; initial pH: 3), while the concentrations of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (N, P and K) of sunflower stalk were unaffected. While physicochemical pretreatm...

Conditional expression of FumA in < em > Aspergillus niger < /em > enhances synthesis of L-malic acid
This study focuses on enhancing L-malic acid synthesis by modifying the tricarboxylic acid cycle within the mitochondria of Aspergillus niger. We emphasize the significant role of fumarase in converting fumaric acid into L-malic acid, enhancing our understanding of metabolic pathways in A. niger. The precise regulation of fumA is highlighted as a key factor in enhancing L-malic acid production. Furthermore, this research introduces a stringent conditional promoter (PmfsA), exclusively activated by CaCO3. The utilization of PmfsA for fumA expression resulted in heightened L-malic acid titers. The progress in metabolic engin...

Efficacy of Single-Dose Azithromycin for Ocular Chlamydial Infection: A Longitudinal Study
In this study, four villages in Niger received a mass azithromycin distribution for trachoma. All 426 children aged 0-5 years residing in the study villages were offered conjunctival swabbing every 6 months to test for ocular Chlamydia trachomatis. Among the children infected with ocular Chlamydia before treatment, 6% (95% CI: 2-15%) tested positive for ocular Chlamydia infection 6 months later, and 15% (95% CI: 7-28%) tested positive 12 months later. The most important predictor of post-treatment ocular Chlamydia infection was pretreatment ocular Chlamydia infection (relative risk: 3.5, 95% CI: 1.3-9.4). Although the 6-mo...
