Do I even have a chance?
I'm 14 years old and if you can't tell by my username I want to be a neurologist. I've loved science since the third grade but I started loving neuro in sixth. I'm going to be a freshman in high school next year and I have two health related extracurriculars I'm going to start (volunteering at a hospital and a health club.) My dream is to become a neurologist but there is one problem, I'm really shy. I feel like I have no chance because of this. A few months ago I had a interview for... Do I even have a chance? UCSD: Switching from Bioinformatics Major to Physiology and Neuroscience???
Hi guys! So I'm going to be studying Bioinformatics at UCSD this fall. However, as someone who is planning to apply to medical schools, I worry about my GPA. Bioinformatics is a really tough major, and would require me to take a lot of unnecessary math and computer science courses (both subjects I'm not a big fan of). I think its a good choice for someone who wants to get into some sort of biotech company right out of college, but that's not my plan. And looking at the other pre-med... Is it too late for me to apply this cycle???
Hello! So basically I am hoping to apply to both M.D. and D.O. schools this summer, but I was just wondering if I could get some advice/insight on the timeline of my application. So some background: I just recently graduated this May with a degree in cell biology and neuroscience and a minor in psychology. My cumulative GPA is a 3.6 and my science GPA is a 3.4 (I got two C's in orgo 1 and 2, but everything else is in the A- B range). I was planning to take the MCAT in June, but I didn't... Advice Needed: Should I Quit Pre-Med?
Hey all, As some background info I am going to be a senior this year and my majors are psychology and neuroscience. I come from a very stereotypical Asian background where growing up, my parents drilled into my head that if I don't become a doctor or an engineer I'm basically a total failure and a disappointment. I took computer science in high school and was pretty bad at it despite finding it interesting (I was an all A student, but barely got a B- or C+ in the class), so when I went to... Kinesiology count as neuroscience?
Pretty much what the title says. Can Kines classes like motor control or development count as neuroscience if they talk about pathways and whatnot, or is that a bit or a stretch? Any additional input from kines majors who have went through the application process would be invaluable. My science GPA is begging you.. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Neuropsychotherapist Magazine
Anyone know anything about this e-magazine? They seem to have a pretty big following on Facebook. I was wondering what people's thoughts are about this and if they think the science is sound. Seems like they link to a lot of big university studies and summarize some interesting research. Thoughts? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Transfer to UCLA, Berkeley, UCSD, or UC Davis?
Help, I am a pre-med transfer student. I got accepted to all my schools, MCB for Berkeley, MIMG for UCLA, Microbiology for Davis, and Human Bio for UCSD. I don't care too much about the weather. I was pretty much set for UC Davis, I love the small town and the environment, but now that I got in everywhere, I'm not sure what to do. I was also told I should try to change my major for UCLA if I do go there to physiological science, psychobiology, or neuro. My biggest worry is GPA. I am a... Matching Neurosurgery WITHOUT neuro research?
Hey all, First year med student and as I've just entered my neuro preclinical course, I'm just blown away. I've wanted to do surgery for a while since I see myself really wanting to develop and use technical/dextrous skills, but the science in med school has bored me for a while until now. Liked ortho because musculoskeletal was easy, but neuro is FASCINATING. For once I'm not pulling my hair out of boredom, I'm gripped. But unfortunately my regional campus, while affiliated with a home... Matching Neurosurgery WITHOUT neuro research? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

2.8 GPA for Ireland with Postbac & Research
I have a 2.8 GPA in a Social Science degree from a Canadian university. I haven't taken any science prerequisites throughout my undergraduate as I decided to go into medicine later in my career. I am waiting to hear back on my application to a Masters program in Clinical Neuropsychiatry in the UK. I'm not sure if I'll be accepted into the Masters program though given my background. The tuition for the Masters program alone is around $30,000 Canadian dollars. If I get an acceptance, I... 2.8 GPA for Ireland with Postbac & Research (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is it just me or is cognition and neuropsychology harder than the math in psychology?
I find the content of cognition och neuropsychology to be quite abstract. Some of the processes and terminologies are hard to grasp if you don't come from a natural science background, while the math of the statistics classes are pretty straightforward, given that you have a decent understanding of numbers. Do you guys agree that, contrary to popular belief, statistics is not the mest challenging content of psychology, but rather cognition and physiology (part of neuropsychology)? Psychologists recurring misinformation and oversimplificiation of neurology.
I have not yet experienced one well informed psychologist lecturing on neurology. They all reference outdated concepts of neurology. Even the old 80s pop science belief of left and right brain is presented as fact, and some of it is even completely wrong. One gigantic error is claiming that the left side of the brain is primarily involved in, amongst other things, mathematical functions. The fact is that people with non reading learning disabilities have impairments on the right side... Psychologists recurring misinformation and oversimplificiation of neurology.
