Couldn't even nab the 'A' in research for credit?
Hello all, This past semester I did research in a neuroscience lab for credit. I was there for 16 hours a week and had to write a 21 page, scientific-article style paper describing the project and results. In general, I've enjoyed the experience. I 'thought' I had a strong relationship with the post doc I was working under. He had some troubles with the PI we were working in addition to family problems that kept him out of the lab for ~25% of the time I was there, so I did a lot of working... MD or DO
Hello Friends, I am still fairly new to SDN and actually new to the prospect of med school. I am a Psychology major undergrad (3.9 cGPA, 3.9 Psychology GPA, science is 4.0 for now - it will be changing because I got a B in chemistry). I plan to pursue psychiatry, specifically neuropsychiatry with an emphasis in TBI treatment. I want to one day open a clinic that specializes in the treatment of TBI - I plan to not only walk the patient through treatment but also conduct research. Here is my... I'm confused and torn
So I've been planning to get into the medical field since I was young, and have switched my mind from neurology to psychiatry because I'm more interested in what the latter has to offer. However the problem is I'm almost equally as passionate about psychiatry as I am about political science (mainly social reform and corruption) and physics. I'm unsure of how I can balance my love for these fields, and I really want to make a difference in the quality of lives of people in the world as a... Science GPA questions
Hey, guys, I'm trying to get a feel of where my sGPA is at the moment. I have 2 questions. 1. Are astronomy courses (ie. ASTRO 101) through the astronomy department counted towards sGPA? 2. Are neurscience courses (ie. Psych 250 - Intro to Neuroscience, Psych 400 - Indepdent Neuroscience Research, and Psych 430 - Advanced Topics in Cognitive Neuroscience) counted towards sGPA? I know AMCAS course classification has neuroscience under biology, but my classes are offered through psych even... Science GPA questions (Source: Student Doctor Network)

DAT testing - break question
Hi, Taking the DAT is a long exam. I've been taking a few practice tests and the first half of the section is 2.5 hr long. I know it's an endurance test and taking a long test is no problem to me... as long as its in increments. However, when you're blessed with a neurogenic bladder and very fast metabolism, the bladder and stomach wins over the brain. Is it possible if you finish the natural science section early prior to time expiration, can you go on a restroom/snack break, as... DAT testing - break question (Source: Student Doctor Network)

D in upper level science course
Hello pre-vets, I have a question regarding vet school for one of my friends... She is in the 2017 application cycle and currently has 3 interviews scheduled in January, and she recently got a D in a upper level science course, neuroanatomy. Before this semester she had a 3.7, and she got a 3.0 this semester. How will this effect her chances for vet school, and do you think it will be brought up in interview? She is freaking out, any advice is appreciated. Thank you. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is Medical Technology looked down upon?
I am currently a biology sophomore in college and thinking about changing my major. I am in quite a dilemma. For me it's between medical technology, neuroscience, or philosophy. People have told me that students who majored in humanities usually score better on the MCAT and look like more well-rounded applicants, which is why I'm considering philosophy since its the only humanities major I like (I'm a big science person, though). I have also been told over and over again that I should... Is Medical Technology looked down upon? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Transition from residency to junior faculty as a physician-scientist
Looking for other MD/PhDs who have blazed a trail from residency to junior faculty, either at the instructor or assistance professor level, who can offer some advice. Starting to get details about the "job" I will be offered for the "holy grail" 80/20 position, and realizing there are some details I should negotiate moving forward. For example: -my 1/2 day clinic/week is supposed to be in my field of interest, but there's a clause stating that slots can be filled with general patients if... Did well in upper-level courses, bombed introductory courses, what's the verdict?
Interestingly, the reason I did well in advanced science courses (neurophysiology, cognitive neuro, etc.) was because I did poorly in introductory courses (C+ first semester orgo and physics, C- introductory neuro) and knew I could do better. The poor grades are because I transferred to an Ivy and the course difficulty hit me hard. It took a semester to adjust, resulting in one out of four of my college years having a pretty crappy GPA, while the other three all averaged over 3.4. How would... Does psychology professor who have bme degree count as science letter?
Hi guys, So I'm currently working in a neuroscience lab in the psychology department and took Biospychology and Human Brain function with my PI. However, she's under the Integrative Neuroscience of Psychology Department and she also has a BME degree and PHD in psychology. Even though the classes are under the psychology department, they are really heavy in biology. Would she count as a science letter? Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)
