Characterization of cells expressing lipocalin-2 (LCN2) as a reporter
Biochem Cell Biol. 2024 May 2. doi: 10.1139/bcb-2024-0013. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLipocalin-2 (LCN2), an effector molecule of the innate immune system that is small enough to be tagged as a reporter molecule, can be coupled with the ferric ion through a siderophore such as enterobactin (Ent). Mintbody (modification-specific intracellular antibody) can track a posttranslational protein modification in epigenetics. We constructed plasmids expressing the LCN2 hybrid of mintbody to examine the potential of LCN2 as a novel reporter for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Cells expressing the LCN2 hybrid of mintbody showed ...

Cardiac solitary fibrous tumor - an extremely rare but potentially fatal diagnosis
Kardiochir Torakochirurgia Pol. 2024 Mar;21(1):39-42. doi: 10.5114/kitp.2024.138574. Epub 2024 Mar 30.ABSTRACTThe background of this review is a description of the case of a 28-year-old man with an extremely rare cardiac solitary fibrous tumor (SFT). Although this tumor was removed surgically and in the 6-month follow-up examination no relapse was noted, recurrence was observed and confirmed in the magnetic resonance imaging 4 months later. SFT prevalence, symptoms and signs, treatment options and prognosis are reviewed.PMID:38693991 | PMC:PMC11059014 | DOI:10.5114/kitp.2024.138574 (Source: Polish Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery)

Evaluating complete response prediction rates in locally advanced rectal cancer with different radiomics segmentation approaches
CONCLUSION: Although the highest AUC result is obtained from the tumor segmentation, the highest accuracy and sensitivity are detected with tumor+mesorectum segmentation and these findings align with previous studies, suggesting that the mesorectum contains valuable insights for CR. The lowest result is obtained with CTV segmentation. More studies with mesorectum and pelvic nodal regions included in segmentation are needed.PMID:38694706 | PMC:PMC11061551 | DOI:10.3389/pore.2024.1611744 (Source: Pathology Oncology Research)

Ferroptosis and its implications in treating cognitive impairment caused by aging: A study on the mechanism of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation
CONCLUSIONS: The Tau/APP-Fe-GPX4/system Xc-/Nrf2 pathway is implicated in the remedial effects of rTMS on cognitive dysfunction, offering a theoretical and experimental basis for employing rTMS in AD treatment.PMID:38697556 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2024.112443 (Source: Experimental Gerontology)

Curcumin Equipped Nanozyme-Like Metal-Organic Framework Platform for the Targeted Atherosclerosis Treatment with Lipid Regulation and Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging Capability
Adv Sci (Weinh). 2024 May 2:e2309062. doi: 10.1002/advs.202309062. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) has become the leading cause of death worldwide, and early diagnosis and treatment of atherosclerosis (AS) are crucial for reducing the occurrence of acute cardiovascular events. However, early diagnosis of AS is challenging, and oral anti-AS drugs suffer from limitations like imprecise targeting and low bioavailability. To overcome the aforementioned shortcomings, Cur/MOF@DS is developed, a nanoplatform integrating diagnosis and treatment by loading curcumin (Cur) into metal-organ...

Prediction of breast cancer and axillary positive-node response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy based on multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging radiomics models
CONCLUSIONS: Our study established non-invasive combining models to predict the therapeutic response of primary breast cancer and axillary positive-node prior to NAC, which may help to modify preoperative treatment and determine post-NAC surgery strategy.PMID:38696854 | DOI:10.1016/j.breast.2024.103737 (Source: Breast)

Recurrent paratesticular liposarcoma: a case report
CONCLUSION: PTL is often misdiagnosed preoperatively. It is typically managed through radical orchidectomy, which includes wide excision and high ligation to ensure free surgical margins and avoid recurrence. The role of adjuvant therapy remains debatable. Despite a generally favorable prognosis, long-term follow-up is crucial because of the elevated risk of recurrence.PMID:38694355 | PMC:PMC11060281 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001949 (Source: Annals of Medicine)
